Rokusuke Kōenji is one of the students of Class 1-D who comes from a well-known family of scholars. But he was a nerdy student who ended up in class-D due to his egotistical tendencies.
PRESENTATION of Rokusuke Kōenji
Appearance
Rokusuke, a young man with a good build and brown eyes, is often seen in the school uniform.
Personality
Rokusuke seems arrogant, self-indulgent, and confident, probably due to his family’s wealth and pedigree. When he was first introduced, he speaks to Kikyō Kushida with a contemptuous and sarcastic gentleman-like way of speaking while refusing to move from his position even though there was an elderly lady in need of a seat.
Rokusuke’s pompous and egotistical nature, and inability to work well with others, can be a problem. But it was what got him into D-Class. He seems to not care. He looks down on his classmates as shown when he taunted Ken Sudō about his imminent possible expulsion after his fight with C-Class.
Further evidence of his self-inflated self-image was when, while on cruise, the captain repeatedly complimented him in a mirror. And when he refused drying himself because it was tedious work, others were shocked at his obvious narcissism.
Rokusuke is a vainglorious and self-serving individual. He later left his class during the survival exam so that he wouldn’t have to take part in it, which led to the class losing points.
He didn’t show any remorse during and after the act, which showed how selfish he can sometimes be. In some aspects, he is quite similar to Kiyotaka where he doesn’t like to be disturbed and treasure his own personal time.
He also couldn’t care less of what others thinks of him nor does he care what happens to them as long as nothing happens to him. He doesn’t care about his grades like other students. Instead, he laughs at his attackers or turns the tables on them.
Plot
In Episode 9, Rokusuke passed through the forest by doing an acrobatic-movement along the trees, outpacing Kiyotaka Ayanokōji and Airi Sakura enough to vanish from sight range. After swimming, Rokusuke fled to a nearby boat and then left the camp. He lost 30 S-points to D Class.

Overall
Rokusuke excels in academics, scoring a passing grade at the mid-term. He was one of the few people who didn’t take and memorise the old test answers from Kikyō Kushida. Honami Ichinose (the leader of Class B), says Rokusuke should be closely monitored. This suggests that he might pose a threat to advanced classes. His poor character hinders his potential to show his true abilities, and is a hindrance for his class.
Physical Disabilities
Rokusuke is athletic, as can be seen from his physique. He swims at 2.153 meters per second, which is considered to rank him among the top tier of World’s most skilled swimmers, and requires the combination of precision, technique, and significant strength.
. After taunting Ken Sudō and almost getting into a brawl, Kiyotaka Ayanokōji remarked that if Ken had attacked him, Rokusuke would have retaliated and defended himself, hinting that he is a more than the average fighter but that has yet to be seen.
He is fast and agile, as he demonstrated when he jumped from tree to tree in the survival exam to beat his classmates in the forest.
Trivia
- Rokusuke’s D-Class class is for people with deficient traits. He has an egotistical nature as well as an inability to collaborate with others.
- When asked about his future aspirations, he replied “2nd Year” ‘Aspirations? I don’t have any such aspirations. I want to be who I am and live my life free.

Since Kōenji does not care about the inner workings of the class 1-D, he does not participate in any type of special exams but if there is a chance of expulsion he would participate so that he wouldn’t be expelled.
