Cherish the Day Season 2 – A romantic drama anthology TV series created for Oprah Winfrey Network. DuVernay, Tanya Hamilton, and Paul Garnes are also executive producers. The series’ first season premiered on February 11, 2020. It received positive reviews from critics. The series currently has a 78% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Given the positive reaction, the producers have already renewed it for a second season.

Cherish The Day‘s initial episodes suggest that the show is so attached to its characters, it takes away the tension from the storylines. The drama attempts to create flaws in Gently James (Cicely Tyson), Roquemore’s live-in caregiver of Luma Langston, a nonagenarian actress. (Luma is perfection — gracious and grateful — as is Gently’s devotion to the older woman and their grandmother-granddaughter relationship.) Miller’s tech exec Evan, who is all white shirts and expensive gifts, is more idealized than Roquemore’s charisma and Tyson’s seasoned magnetism. It results in a pair of charm bombs that explode on both sides of a cardboard cutout.

Cherish The Day Season 1 Recap

Gently had a vibe that was reminiscent of the female romantic leads of the 90s and early 2000s. She was not portrayed as a modern interpretation or homage to these women, but rather she was presented as the natural evolution of them. She was a worldly, hustler girl, and able to be vulnerable and soft as well as a hard worker. Evan was also drawn to her because she couldn’t be easily defined.

Gently grew up without a mother and a biological father. Yes. She had Ben and his boys and a community who raised her and provided a home. They didn’t try and guilt her into limiting her ability to fly and run. They simply kept the nest in place for her return. Gently is a wonderful person to get to know.

Gently was able to explore the world and find her way, despite Ben being a mature man who doesn’t want Gently needing him. Evan and Ben have sometimes remarked on Gently’s need to travel as something negative, but it could also be that they were so attached to their family, they weren’t comfortable with the idea of traveling too far.

The Show Avoiding Messiness, No Matter What was Happening in Gently and Evan’s Relationship – TV 92

The relationship between Evan and Gently is not all sunshine and roses. The majority of episodes end with you feeling like the relationship is over or in a fight. We don’t see Gently drinking in Evan’s face or Evan doing anything crazy to increase the drama. “Cherish The Day” recognizes that relationships are more important than drama. They’re not about trying to have or keep one. If you want to elevate things, all you have to do is invite the person to meet your parents. There is no need to make love triangles or have passionate conversations turn into a sour exchange.

Miss Luma and, in Extension, Cicely Tyson are Revered

My opinion is that when actresses reach a certain age in media that focuses on Black lives and experiences, they too tend to fade away. Specials are needed to document where they are now and ask, “What happened?” Cicely Tyson is a consistent worker, but this has not been the case. Her work often leaves her feeling frail and disoriented. “Cherish The Day,” however, is quite different. Much like Margaret Avery in “Being Mary Jane”, she was still very sharp, vibrant, and spry.

She was able to demonstrate this by dancing with Evan at times and moving around her house. She has so many things to do, that she requires help. As she showed in the finale, she’s just as capable as anyone of being able to leave the house and do something for herself. In many ways, Miss Luma is Tyson’s daughter. She is a talented performer who isn’t as well-known as she should be. As we listen to Miss Luma’s stories and see the community’s investment in her, it reminds us not only of the value of her stories but also her presence.

There was more to Evan than meets the eye – 89

Evan was not a saint when it came to Evan. Although he looked like one because he was successful at his job, he was also a great listener and could defend Gently from his mother. But he wasn’t perfect. This I appreciated because it allowed Gently to see beyond what is obvious. In some ways, Evan was spoiled by his mother’s praise and the support of her sorority sister. Evan also had a desire for good in his company. However, like many others, he gave into the temptation to pursue money. This ruined his reputation and destroyed some of his friendships.

We loved Evan’s progressive, romantic appearance, but he was still a workhorse. He was passive-aggressive and controlling. Evan is more than your standard male lead. He was able to reflect on his actions, ask if they were romantic, selfish, and think through his points in tense moments.

Cherish The Day Season 2 Release Date

The show’s producers announced on October 6, 2020 that the series would be renewed for a second year. On September 6, 2022, Cherish the Day announced that a second season would air on Thursday, October 4, 2022. It will air on OWN at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Show makers have not made any official announcements about the number of episodes in this season. The last season had 8 episodes with a duration of between 40 and 45 minutes. It is expected that this season will have the same amount of episodes as the previous one.

The trailer has yet to be released. We had to wait a bit longer before the season arrived.

Cherish The Day Season 2 Storyline

Season 2 reveals the love story between Ellis Moran (high school sweetheart) and Sunday St. James (high school sweetheart). They were high school sweethearts who reunited in New Orleans many years later.

Ellis, a former football player, is now a single father with two children. Sunday is a well-known vegetarian chef, currently at the peak of his career. Mandeville “MV” St. James, a caring, funny, widowed father of Sunday, is loving. He is an ex-judge by profession. Anastasia Ellis is Ellis’ soon-to-be ex wife and mother of their children.

This story will focus on their relationship. This is how they will deal with the problems ahead. They will either have an optimistic outlook or negative vibes. They will either cherish the day or they will make a mess.

Cherish The Day Season 2 Cast

In July 2021, it was announced that Joy Bryant would star alongside Henry Simmons in the upcoming season. Joy Bryant will be playing Sunday, while Henry Simmons will play Ellis.

The series is currently not available on Netflix. It is possible that Netflix will release the series soon after the season 2 premieres. The platform has not made an official announcement.
