Darby and Joan Season 1 Recap

The brand-new drama series starring Bryan Brown and Greta Scacchi is set in Australia and centers on a newly widowed English nurse named Joan Kirkhope and a retired Australian homicide investigator named Jack Darby as they travel across the country in Darby’s recreational vehicle. It is a unique pairing that the pair, who were fortunate enough to meet each other by chance. Darby, on one hand, is a calm type of guy who loves Diesel, his faithful dog, and a nice glass of wine. Joan is slightly more fragile. They become involved in many mysteries as they travel through outback.

The trailer shows us what we can expect from the series. It depicts the continuous arguments between Darby and Joan, whose easy-going outback demeanour and Joan’s high-strung English viewpoint frequently collide in humorous and lovable ways. Darby had the opportunity to introduce Joan lamington, an Australian traditional cake. The trailer isn’t all fun and games, though; Joan stumbles into the operation of a gun taking place right in front of her, and Darby is dragged into a murder inquiry. Joan will probably need more alcohol to help her get through the outback challenges. The show will investigate the phenomenon known as “grey nomads,” which refers to retirees who choose to uproot their lives and travel the country. Spending their senior years traveling to new and exciting places. The phenomenon will be examined by Darby and Joan, together with the vast and distinctive beauty of Australia’s outback.

Love, love, love Darby and Joan. Hope there is a season 2. Love the fact there are mysteries and plots that don’t involve murder every episode (though I love murder mysteries). It’s just very unique. The scenery is great and I love the characters. So well done.
Would love more shows that were as well done and fun to watch.

I am 77, and enjoyed watching this show. I’m, American, but have fallen in love with the Australian, Canadian actors. Americans don’t hold a candle.

Loved this series. Great characters! Beautiful country. Not full of foul language or “shoot em out”, car chases and blowing up of buildings. It is the main reason I rarely if ever watch anything American (USA) which are too violent and have absolutely no character development.

Can’t wait for a second season of “Darby and Joan.” What a brilliant pairing of two very likeable characters. A really wholesome “who-done-it” mystery and romance-in-the-making hour’s worth of entertainment. Looking forward to its return, this time with Joan helping Jack.
