In the season 1 finale, Nagisa eventually decides that she cannot be a snob anymore and forces Saki Saki to admit her as a contender for Naoya’s older girlfriend. In the meantime, Shino manages to dispel any doubts she has and is shocked to discover Saki Saki is in a relationship with two people and doesn’t respect his girlfriend or relationship. She promises to come up with a solution to split them. But, Saki Saki is happy with Naoya who is trying to keep his girlfriends content. In the midst of all this drama, Rika is focused on getting Naoya’s attention.

In the second season, Rika will eventually become an essential member of Naoya and his friends’ social circle. She’s unlikely to abandon her ambitions to be the protagonist’s new love in the near future. While Rika attempts to persuade Naoya, Shino will find ways to end Saki Saki’s love affair. The Girlfriend, Girlfriend anime was very similar to the manga in the early episodes. It was usually a panel-by-panel adaptation, however, the writers of the anime made a few tweaks that actually enhanced the original material.

The manga writers attempted to present “best girl” Shino Kiryuu in a hurry by providing her with minor lines in scenes established in the manga timeline. Manga fans will find this odd because they’re used to Mirika and her name. Rika Hoshizaki isn’t often used. While the R or L are frequently used interchangeably for Japanese, Milika still doesn’t sound right since the name is clearly a mix that is a combination of Mi as well as Rika. When you use Mirika it implies that she’s lacking brain cells to connect despite her efforts to conceal her identity on the internet.

Another notable modification in Episode 7 is the fact that it changed Saki’s bunny girl costume and Minase’s maid’s outfit mini-story earlier because those events were originally set after the story arc about hot springs. This meant that Saki’s mom was added earlier to the storyline.

Chapter 36 is the most effective stoppage, as it allows the initial season to keep a steady pace throughout. The chapter also settles an important conflict for Nagisa in the Hot Springs story arc, and gives a shocking insight into Shino which makes for an amazing cliffhanger finale… however, only in the event that Girlfriend, Girlfriend Season 2 is already in the works.

The positive side is that the daily Girlfriend, Girlfriend manga should contain plenty of chapters before the end of 2021 to be used as the basis for Kanojo Mo Kanojo Season 2. Manga readers who are only English can start reading before the anime by jumping directly to Chapter 39 of the manga’s digital volume Chapter 39 (recall that Chapters 37 and 38 were already changed).

Following the hot spring vacation, Nagisa has grown closer to Naoya because she’s been more open about her feelings toward Naoya. Saki is frightened by this abrupt change in the couple’s relationship (and this is why the manga timeline shows Saki being seduced by Naoya wearing a bunny girl outfit).

In the meantime, Shino is acting normal at school, even though she is aware of the polygamous two-timing situation at this moment. It’s not good, but after Naoya describes why the two-timing began… Shino’s secret feelings toward Naoya start to surface.

Then, Shino realizes that Saki isn’t as familiar with the family… this is the moment that Saki allows it to be known their relationship for a few months already. In response to those revelations, the true surprise is Shino announces that she’s going to stay together with Naoya, Saki, and Minase in order to force the two-timers to stop!

Girlfriend Season 2 is a continuation of the back stories of all of the characters, and lets Saki to process her feelings about the two-timer. A fireworks celebration is followed by a dramatic cliffhanger regarding Mirika’s plans for summer.

The girls also devise an ingenious plan for how Naoya can prove that he is able to control himself by having a night out together with every girl. It will also get heated when Naoya’s parents suddenly arrive at the home while the girls are engaged in the middle of a “b**b battle”!
