Although it’s likely to be less popular than other shows developed by Kyoto Animation, some fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Myriad Colors Phantom World Season 2. The show is known by the name of Musaigen no Phantom World in Japanese; it is a fantasy animation series that is a reworking of the light novel with the same title. The light novel was composed by Soichirou Hatano and was illustrated by Shirabi.

In Kyoto Animation’s imprint for novels, KA Esumo Bunko, Soichirou Hatano first published the first book in the series on December 20, 2013. Then, they released two additional volumes, making three volumes.

The first volume was awarded an honorable mention in the 4th Kyoto Animation Award, an annual award that honors notable works. Certain works as winners have been given adaptations to anime, as has The Myriad Colors Phantom World.

The adaptation of the anime, made by Kyoto Animations, was directed by Tatsuya Ishihara (Nichijou, Free), with Kazumi Ikeda directing the character designs as well as acting as the chief animator. The first season aired from January 7 to March 31st, 2016; it was listed as having 13 episodes.

Are there going to be a Myriad Colors Phantom World Season 2?

To be honest, it’s likely that we won’t see Myriad Colors Phantom World Season 2. As with other anime sequels that fans would like, the original material is one of the issues.

Like we said before, the series has three volumes. The good news is that Kyoto Animation only adapted the first volume of the light novel for the initial season. The downside is that there’s a shift in the plot that begins in the sequel volume. We will not go into detail on the new changes, but to sum up the story, it shifts from a positive vibe to a dark and disturbing story.

We then link the transformation of the story to the animation studio, Kyoto Animation. Similar to other anime created in the past by Kyoto Animation, it has lots of elements from the manga as well as a unique story. The first season had a perfect ending. It’s going to be a tough task for Kyoto Animation to create Myriad Colors Phantom World Season 2 due to shifts in the tone of the narrative. It’s possible that it will not be in line with Kyoto Animation’s style or principles.

Additionally, after the arson attack in 2019, Kyoto Animation is still recovering, but isn’t producing any anime-related television shows. In the entire year, Kyoto Animation is the only studio to have one anime, Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S.

The expectations for Myriad Colors Phantom World Season 2 are not high. However, men have to have hope.

Myriad Colors Phantom World Season 2 Release Date

In light of the problems we have mentioned previously, there’s no officially announced release date set for Myriad Colors Phantom World Season 2. Unfortunately, it’s the painful reality we must accept for the moment, at least.

It’s been just 5 years now since the show ended, which means the likelihood of a repeat could be different. We’ll have to wait for the complete recovery of Kyoto Animation and then they’ll be willing to create the next season. We could possibly receive the same treatment as in the Amagi Brilliant Park series, which doesn’t even have the possibility of a sequel.

The Plot of Myriad Colors Phantom World

The story is about Haruki Ichijo, a student at Hosea Academy. In the world in which Haruki lives, there are Phantoms, supernatural beings that are seen due to the outbreak of a virus that affects the human brain and senses.

Hosea Academy is a private school for children who have capabilities to handle Phantoms. Have fun with Haruki and his friends as they participate in Phantom-hunting clubs, everyday life, and their fight to stop the dangerous Phantoms.

Myriad Colors Phantom World Has a Spin-Off

This anime-based show Myriad Colors Phantom World also includes seven spin-offs entitled Musaigen no Phantom World: The A Limitless Phantom World. It’s a drama-style picture special, which is included with the original series’ Blu-ray/DVD collections. Each episode is a mere 6 minutes in length and includes humor while retaining those characters that are from the original series.
