It is always fun to compare your favorite heroes, especially if they have similar abilities. Everyone is curious about the outcome of the battle between Captain America and Red Guardian, even though the MCU director is still silent.

Captain America or Red Guardian: Which Soldier Won?

It’s easy for us to support Steve Rogers but we can’t undermine the Red Guardian’s battle experience and military training.

They both have super soldier abilities, having received super-soldier serum from different sides of the globe. Alexei Shostakov, unlike Steve Rogers, is more vindictive. This will be a factor in their battle.

The Red Guardian will not be intimidated by Captain America’s machinations. We’ll be breaking down the possible outcomes of this battle, even though David Harbour and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are still silent.

Training & Battle Experience

Before becoming the first super-soldier in America, Steve Rogers was a frail man. His fighting skills were further enhanced during World War II, and in his battles with Thanos and the other Avengers.

Red Guardian, on the other hand, was a KGB-trained military officer from the Soviet Union (CIA counterpart). He was also an instrumental figure during the second world war. Alexei, in addition to being a super soldier, is also a trained spy.

The super soldiers not only gain a boost in strength, but also in their reflexes. Marvel Studios portrays each super-soldier with reflexes that are beyond what is humanly possible.

Captain America was able to catch Proxima Midnight’s spear while she was fighting Captain America in Infinity War. Similar to the Black Widow movie, Alexei Shostakov, his wife Melina, and their adopted daughters Yelena and Natasha Romanoff, managed to dodge bullets while trying to escape from the local authorities.

Fighting Style

Captain America is an expert in many martial arts including Jujitsu and Judo. The many fights we’ve seen him engage in are testament to his skill.

His Russian counterpart was able to hold his own against Taskmaster in Red Room, despite the fact that Taskmaster has mastered all Avengers fighting styles including Black Panther or Captain America.

If the Red Guardian is sent by the Soviet Union to fight Steve Rogers then you can expect him to “do it all day”.

Shield

Cap’s shield is made of vibranium alloy and adamantium. It is technically indestructible. The Red Guardian’s are weaker until they upgrade it with the same material and a high-density computer/gyroscope. This is how the shield returns to the man’s wrist. Red Guardian’s shield also is strong and durable.

Super Strength

Steve has shown his incredible strength many times, including his fight against the Winter Soldier (Bucky) and his defense against Thanos (who owns almost all of the infinity stones). He also lifted Thor’s Hammer and used it against the mad titan.

The Red Guardian showed his physical strength in Black Widow, throwing a steel trailer one handed. He also defeated all his inmates in arm wrestling. His escape from a Russian prison was the last.

Intelligence

Despite being portrayed as a dumbo, Alexei Shostakov will sweep the floor with Steve Rogers during a Red Guardian battle of wits against Captain America.

Although Captain America is intelligent and a great strategist, his training is not as good as that of a Soviet Union KGB-trained super soldier like Red Guardian. Alexei was a test pilot who was trained in infiltration, espionage and human intelligence tactics.

Energy Projection

Here Captain America defeats Alexei. A super-soldier serum is able to lift Thor’s hammer, despite them both being glorified super-soldiers.

Captain America used the Mjolnir to defeat Thanos at one time in history. He also used lightning to further damage Thanos in the Marvel movie.

It’s not about strength lifting the Mjolnir. Red Guardian would still fail this mission, even if he had more vials.

Speed

The Black Widow movie didn’t show much of the Red Guardian’s glory days. We can assume that his peak speed during the Cold War was comparable with Captain America’s.

Black Widow was only shown the basic similarities of the two, such as the flying disc and their incredible strengths. Marvel should have a super-soldier battle between Captain America, Red Guardian. We wish for more distinction.

Durability

We know how tough Captain America can be – it is no easy feat to take a direct hit from Thanos. We also saw the Red Guardian’s endurance against Taskmaster in Black Widow. He was able to survive a direct disc throw at the back and he got up instantly. Roy Thomas and John Buscema described Alexei in Marvel comics as “equally durable” with Steve Rogers.

Was Captain America ever defeated by the Red Guardian?

They did fight. Black Widow features Alexei praising Captain America’s fight during the 1980s. According to comics, Red Guardian could have fought Isaiah Bradley, a different Captain America. Alexei believes that Steve Rogers is still the same person he fought back then.

Alexei may have been lying or joking, even though Kevin Feige said Rogers was frozen at the time.

Red Guardian is a hero, or a villain?

It all depends on how we look at it. Red Guardian might be one. He was certainly instrumental in Russia’s success, and he is considered a hero. The Red Guardian is actually on Black Widow’s side, if you look at the technicalities.

Red Guardian is compared to Captain America.

Because they have almost identical combat styles, weaponry and uniforms, they are often compared. The Red Guardian can also be an enhanced soldier by using a super-soldier formula like Captain America. It would be absurd to compare Alexei and Shang Chi as they have no apparent similarities.

The Winner is…

Red Guardian and Captain America could be in their primes, so the battle could turn either way in fair hand-to-hand combat.

The Red Guardian can still get Captain America if there is some backhand espionage or infiltration. The Red Guardian will be destroyed if Cap grabs Thor’s hammer.

We will never know which super soldier is stronger now that Captain America has passed away, but it is possible to get some insight into the future if John Walker takes on an older Alexei Shostakov.
