The American Barbecue Showdown was filmed in Covington, Georgia. It is a Netflix reality TV web series. It has received positive reviews and is rated 7.1/10 by IMDb.

Netflix distributed the first season. It premiered on September 18, 2020. The production details of the show’s first season are not yet known. After the positive reception to the first season, Netflix renewed it for a second season in August 2021.

Hosted by Rutledge Wood, comedian Lyric Lewis, and Melissa Cookston as judges, American Barbecue Showdown is all about creating complex flavor profiles, cooking for large crowds, and succeeding with unique ingredients.

Who will win Season 1 of American Barbecue Showdown?

After eight days of intense competition and tasks that involved cooking for 50 firefighters, choosing between iguana and raccoon meats, and creating signature sandwiches; only two cooks were left: Tina Cannon and Rasheed Phillips.

Tina was a fan favorite from the very beginning. Tina was not afraid to tell judges and hosts that she didn’t have enough time and had funny comments about the things she brought to the competition.

“The great thing about being a Southern belle is that sometimes you can do without a lot. For example, pearls are my go-to accessory when I compete in cooking contests. She said, “I look like a little girl.” “They don’t think much about me, but they sneak up on me and you don’t even know it.”

Tina was able to get into the spirit of the contest, although she was admittedly behind other contestants in the first challenge. The Southern belle with her pearls made it to the final.

Rasheed was, however, an immediate frontrunner.

The Jamaican native said that food is a big part of his memories. He also explained that Julia Child was his first cookbook.

“I am not a chef. I’m not a pitmaster. Rasheed stated, “Those are titles that you have to earn.” Rasheed said, “I’m a guy who manages to not burn the food.”

Rasheed and Tina were given the difficult task to cook an entire hog for the final. The challenge was made more difficult because neither of the finalists had ever cooked an entire pork. The finalists had to prepare brisket, four sides, and a dessert.

Tina made sweet and cowboy coffee sauces as well as pinto beans and hoecakes. She also made Mac & Cheese, creamed corn, and peach cobbler. Rasheed’s brisket, hog, and cheese cornbread were accompanied with pork belly smoked Mac & Cheese, cheese cornbread, and pork and beans.

Tina was America’s Barbecue Champion.

“I came here to show that women can barbecue just like the men.” After winning, Tina stated that they can compete just like the men. Rasheed was a gracious loser and said that Tina coming in second was an honor because she had more experience than him.

American Barbecue Showdown Season 2 Release date

Season 1 of “American Barbecue Showdown” debuted on Netflix September 18, 2020. There were eight episodes total. Given the high ratings for cooking shows on the streaming site, we are optimistic that the series will be continued at least one more time. It also has its own personality due to the well-respected judges. This is logical, given how popular the first edition was. We expect to hear more information about a renewal in the near future. If Netflix approves the new version before the year ends, we can expect the second season “American Barbecue Showdown” to premiere sometime in Fall 2021.

The American Barbecue Showdown Format

The American Barbecue Showdown features contestants from all over America participating in a Barbecue Competition to become American Barbecue Champion. The competition begins with eight contestants. Each one has a different level in barbecuing and must face cooking challenges in different styles, sometimes with additional surprises.

This show is not only about the cooking part, but also how to maintain the barbecue’s temperature. Each task must be completed in a time limit that is shorter than the usual time it takes to prepare and cook the meal.

American Barbecue Showdown Season 2 Cast

Melissa Cookston and Kevin Bludso make up an impressive judging panel in Season 1. Cookston is a seven-time world champion in barbecue and the owner of Memphis BBQ Company. Bludso, however, founded Bludso’s BBQ, which is one of the most popular barbecue restaurants in Los Angeles. Lyric Lewis (A.P. Bio) will be the judges’ cohosts.

Every episode features a challenge presented by the judges to the contestants. To test the skills of BBQers, the tasks are as difficult as possible. Season 1 was challenging because of the use of traditional methods as well as the introductions to new meats. In season 2, we expect Melissa Cookston to be back as judges. Wood and Lewis should once again be the hosts.

In addition to the judges, the eight contestants who were introduced from season 1 are very impressive. James “Boatright”, a St. Louis, Missouri-based chef, is an expert on baby back ribs, backyard cooking, and Tina Cannon, from Georgia. Georgia Chasen, a Rockville, Maryland-based experimental cook, is extremely organized, and Michael Collins, Fayetteville North Carolina, has prepared many exotic meats. The newest members of this diverse group are Sylvie Curry, from Ramona in California, James “Grubbs”, from Blairsville, Georgia, and Rasheed Philips, from Atlanta, Georgia. Ashley Thompson, from Benson, North Carolina.

After a string of eliminations, Tina and Rasheed were the last two to reach the grand finale. Tina Cannon was named American Barbecue Champion. In Season 2, a new team of BBQ experts will compete to win the hearts of the judges and take the title of champion.

What Are The Main Challenges In American Barbecue Showdown Season 2?

Season 2’s challenges will not be easy. Contestants will have to sweat it out and make some serious barbecue. Last season’s contestants had successfully completed many themed challenges. They might make barbecue sandwiches in one episode, and they might make wild game cuts in another.

Season 2 should not depart from this formula theoretically. You can only achieve so much if your activities are limited to barbecue. It would be wrong to assume that they only used what was available. It is possible that the show could present new and challenging barbecue challenges to its competitors. This has only begun.

Netflix continues to light the smoky fires after Chef’s Table BBQ was released earlier in the month. The American Barbecue Showdown is back, and it’s a deliciously juicy and meat-smoking show.

It’s very simple: 8 chefs have a set amount of time to prepare a variety of main dishes, sides, and desserts. This cooking competition allows you to create your own barbecue combination plates, wild meat stews, sandwiches, and other dishes.

These eight pit-masters are bold and compete against each other to grill, smoke, and cook the best barbecues. One of the chefs is named the star pit-master at the end of each episode. The loser goes home and is eliminated. All this leads to a dramatic finale between the top two with America’s Barbecue Champion.

You will find all the competition staples, such as heartfelt back-stories and humor, large personalities (like Shotgun), and even some educational content. To break up the action, this usually appears in the form of pictures or expository texts at the bottom of your screen.

There are also moments where the judges check out the cooking skills of the chefs. Melissa Cookston, “Smoke Queen”, is the best. Although her presence is clear, she plays the Simon Cowell or Paul Hollywood role well.

This is what makes it so enjoyable. The delicious food was cooked beautifully and the money shots for the last dishes were excellent.

Each chef is also given a fair amount of praise and criticism by the judges. This one is more in the Great British Bake-Off category for judge comments. This group of guys clearly knows what they are talking about, and it shows.

Although there’s nothing extraordinary or remarkable about this show, foodies will be delighted. American Barbecue Showdown has 8 episodes and offers interesting and challenging challenges.
