Captain Marvel 2 Release Date: Everything You Need To Know

Captain Marvel 2 will go higher, further, and faster than the original movie. Carol Danvers will have plenty of company. In May 2021, it was revealed that the official title of the sequel to Captain Marvel is The Marvels. This is a reference to the fact that not only will there be one Captain Marvel, but that there will be three.
In January 2020, it was confirmed that the sequel was in development with Megan McDonnell, one of the Disney+ MCU writers for WandaVision, writing the script. However, there are some major changes from the original movie.
Captain Marvel Co-writers and Co-Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have been replaced by Candyman director Nia Da Costa. This is a long-overdue Marvel first: hiring a Black woman as its director.
What can we expect from Captain Marvel 2, also known as The Marvels? This is everything you need to know.
Release date for Captain Marvel 2: When will The Marvels be released?

After the delay in Black Widow to November 2019, Disney changed the release dates of Marvel Phase 4. It was announced that the sequel would be released July 8, 2022.
A reshuffle of MCU’s upcoming slate has seen Black Panther 2 replace Captain Marvel 2‘s July release. Yet another shift saw those dates change again. The Marvels will debut on February 17, 2023.
Marvel has not confirmed when filming will begin for the sequel. However, it was reported that shooting would start in May. This would have been consistent with the November 2022 release. We are unable to predict when filming will start, as the release date has been changed.
Captain Marvel 2 Cast: Who’s in The Marvels

We knew Brie Larson would return as Carol Danvers, and it was confirmed at the Disney Investor Day in 2020 that she will have some exciting company.
Teyonah Parris, who debuted the role in WandaVision, will play Monica Rambeau’s grown-up version. The sequel will also feature Iman Vellani, aka Ms. Marvel. She will make her MCU debut on the Disney+ series with the same name in 2021.
After Carol Danvers became Captain Marvel, Kamala Khan assumed Ms. Marvel’s role. It seems that Danvers wasn’t Ms. Marvel in the MCU so she will likely be the first Ms. Marvel.

Brie Larson had in February 2019 already talked about Ms. Marvel being “in play in the sequel”. And she has.
This title could refer to Kamala and Carol as Captain Marvels. However, the WandaVision events saw Monica gain superpowers. According to comics, Monica was Captain Marvel before Carol.
DISNEY MARVEL STUDIOS
Talking about WandaVision, the show confirmed that Maria Rambeau had died in the five years Monica was being dusted by Snap. This seems to rule out Lashana Lynch returning in the sequel.
Monica and Carol clearly have issues to deal with (potentially over her not being there for her mum), so Lynch could revisit her role in flashbacks.

We know that Zawe Ashton will play the main antagonist in the sequel. Although it’s not clear who she is, there are three Captain Marvels she could be playing.
The first movie was successful with no major deaths except for Minn-Erva, Starforce member Gemma Chan. We can only say that she won’t be back.
If Fury isn’t there, could we see another MCU favorite take his place (Samuel L. Jackson)? Although it’s possible, we want Fury to rekindle his friendship (if Goose is still around).
Captain Marvel 2: What will The Marvels be all about?

The title, as mentioned, likely refers to a team-up between Carol Danvers & Kamala Khan, which may or may not include Monica Rambeau.
WandaVision suggested that things are not perfect in the relationship of Carol and Monica. This could be part of the sequel’s storyline. Although we don’t believe it would go so far as Monica becoming a villain, it could happen.
Marvel has not yet released a plot synopsis for the sequel. However, it was described as a “cosmic adventure”. So take that as what you wish.

According to reports, the sequel will take place in “the current day”. This is likely to be the present-day of the current MCU. This is 2023, after the events of Avengers Endgame and its five-year time jump.
Captain Marvel wasn’t featured much in Endgame (although, she did assist in the epic last battle), so it’s difficult to see clues as to what the sequel’s plot might be.
The Russo brothers confirmed she was not in Endgame as it was a story about the original six. This is partly why she went off to help other planets affected by the Snap.
Captain Marvel was crucial to the Avengers defeating Thanos, and she also showed up at Tony Stark’s memorial. However, that was her last sighting, so we don’t know what she’s up to now in the MCU.

Captain Marvel 2 trailer: Are there any new clips of The Marvels footage?

The sequel could start filming in May. If that happens, we might see the first footage before the end of the year. However, it is possible that the trailer will not be available until 2022.
We know that the world will change any guesses we make, so we’ll just keep this page bookmarked for future reference.
