In Attack On Titan (Aot), Eldia was a nation created from an ancient warlike tribe, which was later led by the People of Ymir. Eldia ruled over the world from 1800 years ago until the Great Titan War saw this empire fall into two camps: those who remained in Marley and those who fled to Paradis Island with the 145th King Fritz.

PAST
In Attack On Titan (Aot), Eldia was a small tribe that existed more than 1820 centuries ago. They were a warlike tribe, exploiting other peoples and supplying their own population with food. Ymir, a young girl who was enslaved by the tribe, accidentally gained power over the titans, and became the first titan. Fritz, the chief of this tribe, used Ymir to make the tribe prosperous. He built roads and bridges and cultivated the land. He also used Ymir as a weapon against Marley, his enemy nation. Fritz made Ymir the tribe’s first titan.
Fritz made Ymir a concubine. He had three daughters with her, and Ymir’s children would be called Ymir’s People. From that point on Fritz and his family ruled over the Eldians. Thirteen years later, Ymir Fritz died. Her powers were then divided between her daughters. These powers were then divided among nine children, of which one inherited the abilities from Ymir’s Founder Titan. These Eldians made use of their power to expand the territory of the Eldian Empire until they ruled the entire world. In the year 700-799, the Eldians were born.

YEAR 700-799
A cult in Marley worshipped a girl named Ymir (after Ymir Fritz) 60 years ago. Ymir and her cult were eventually seized by Marley authorities. They were sent to Paradis as punishment and were made into mindless titans. Ymir lived as a titan without the walls for 60 more years, until the fall of the Maria Wall around the year 845.

YEAR 845
Marley sent Reiner Braun, Bertolt Hoover, Annie Leonhart, Marcel Galliard to the walls to destroy the Shiganshina, Maria gates and to attempt to claim the power from the Founding Titan. Ymir, a titan, attempted to attack Reiner during the mission. However, Marcel saved Reiner. Ymir eats Marcel and gains his powers from Titan Jaw. He then becomes human again. Ymir is able to get into the walls, and he begins to be part of the walled community. Ymir’s life is transformed.

YEAR 848
The year 848 sees Ilse Langnar, an Exploration Corps member, become the last survivor on the left flank of Expedition #34. Without a horse, 3D Maneuver equipment and a horse, Ilse is left in titan territory. She must walk to get to Rose. Ilse begins to keep a journal of her journey to the wall. She is captured by a titan on her way to the wall, but he does not immediately devour her. The titan appears to Ilse and tells her “The ….People… of… Y… mir ” before calling her “Lady Ymir” after which she is welcomed by the titan.
Confounded, Ilse attempts to communicate with it, asking where it came from and then angrily questioning why it eats people. The titan initially does not respond to Ilse’s screams and whimpers but then it starts to scratch its cheeks violently. Ilse attempts to escape but is captured by the titan who takes one bite of her body, but does not decapitate her. Levi Ackerman, Hange Zoe found her notebook a year later. SOCIETY Eldia Attack On Titan
ELDIAN EMPIRE
1800 years ago, the Eldian Empire was split into eight houses. Each house was led by one of the Nine Titans who remained in constant conflict for many generations. The Founder Titan, who was under the control of the Fritz Family, was responsible for restoring balance among other heirs to Ymir. Many other nations, including Marley developed hatred towards Eldia after they conquered large swathes of the land and carried out ethnic cleansing.
After 1700 years, the Eldian Empire was finally dissolved at the end of the Great Titan War. It divided between those who fled to Paradis Island with 1 45th Kings Fritz, and those who remained on mainland to be interned by Marley in internment areas.
PARADIS
For over 100 years, the Eldians from Paradis lived in a large walled area. This protected them from the threats posed outside. All areas where they live or do their work, including residential areas, are surrounded with high, solid walls. The total population was 1.25 million before the Fall of the Maria Wall 845. However, this number has decreased since the genocide.
Paradis society was unaware of the existence of the ocean or any other rational being outside of the Maria Wall. Only a few nobles, and the Royal Government, knew about it. Any book that contained information about the world beyond the walls was forbidden. If this was discovered, those responsible would be punished.
The landlocked, inhabited territory was not suitable for the production of salt or salt water. This made it a highly valuable commodity. Although the lifestyle was similar to that of a preindustrial Europe electronic and nuclear technology was not available, this was due to the suppression of their advances by a mediocre monarchy. They use real length units (centimeters and meters, and kilometers and time units such as minutes, days, and years).
It is possible to create and manufacture equipment that operates under pressure using industrial science, which is similar to Europe during the full industrial revolution. MARLEY
Eldians who descend from mainlanders who survived the Great Titan War are second-class citizens to the Marley population. They are seen as people with “impure”. Also, They hate other Eldians from Paradis and consider them to be a threat to their race.
They are kept apart from the rest of society in designated areas, or ghettos. These Eldians can later be used to make cheap weapons of mass destruction for wars and become titans. These Eldians are not able to use a monetary system and can sometimes leave the area using passes issued by the Public Security Authorities. All of them must wear a mandatory bracelet on the left arm to identify themselves as belonging to their race, inside or outside the ghettos.
Marley is home to most Eldians. Rebel forces have attempted to restore Eldian power on several occasions, but they have all failed. Other than the dissident movements, secret Eldian organizations include a cult dedicated solely to the worship of Ymir, the Eldian matriarch and a goddess to many of her descendants. This cult’s followers were driven by fanaticism and even worshipped an orphan girl named “Ymir”, though the leader of the group seemed to be only interested in financial gain. The Public Security Authorities eventually discovered the cult and captured its members.
Many Eldians have been prejudiced by Marley society and many of these young men joined the warrior program to be used in Marley’s wars. These young men, regardless of the oppression they are subject to, are extremely dedicated to Marley’s cause. These warriors are also potential candidates for inheriting some of the titan power.
CURIOSITIES About Eldia Attack On Titan
In Attack On Titan, The Eldia emblem is a white nine pointed star that is usually seen on the bracelets of the Eldians who live in Marley. The Nine Titans may be linked to the number of stars, but they don’t have that meaning. Fritz, the ancient king, wore a crown bearing this emblem before Ymir Fritz died.
