A Television special that lasts almost an hour, the TV block The 🐲 Dragon Ball Super anime series, which aired in Japan on October 8, 2017, consisted of Episodes 109 and 110.
Synopsis
While Goku is facing Ribriand, Jiren agrees to fight Son Goku. Due to Jiren’s strength 💪, Goku is forced to use his most destructive technique to save himself: Genki-dama.
Goku becomes increasingly overwhelmed by Jiren’s unstoppable power. It seems like it lasts only a moment. The balance, although it might seem the other direction, is uncertain.
Plot
First part
Goku fights Ribriand in his base form, but his attacks seem to have no effect on her. Ribriand is determined not to lose the tournament. She wants to use the Dragon Superspheres 🌎 to become a “goddess of love” worshipped by all Universes. She asks Goku why the spheres are important, but he doesn’t know yet. He could also use them for Chi-Chi, for his children, for his grandchildren, or just to be with someone more powerful than anyone he has ever met before.
Ribriand believes her wish has already been granted. She takes in the power of her teammates to become what she dreams of becoming: Super Ribriand. Goku can feel incredible power from her. She unleashes a torrent of love-based attacks. The last one causes a massive explosion. Ribriand, as Blue Supersaiyan, gives Ribriand victory and she takes off. Jiren sees Ribriand land at her feet and he flies to her. silent gaze. She believes he might be her lover. But she quickly becomes annoyed at the constant silence. The gods of Universe 11 decide it is time for Jiren to act. Vermoud telepathically contacts Jiren to order him to eliminate Goku and ignore everyone else. Jiren’s Ki shakes The entire Survival Place. Toppo tells Jiren everything he knows to help her get Dragon Superspheres.
Son Goku and Jiren are ready to fight 💪, and when Jiren increases in power, Beerus is surprised to see so much ki coming from a single warrior. Goku, in his base state, fires a Kamehameha at Jiren, but the strength of Jiren’s ki is enough to completely shield him as he remains motionless. Shin wonders why Goku doesn’t become Blue Supersaiyan and wonders if he is underestimating Jiren. However, Krilin thinks that Goku is simply testing his opponent’s power like his own; he wants to show Jiren what he can do, and bring out his full power.
While Goku may be interested in Jiren, Tenshinhan wonders if Jiren has any interest in Goku. But Krilin says that the latter has been watching Goku all this time, and probably wants to see his full strength. Kame-Sen’nin says that they have recognized each other as worthy opponents. Meanwhile, Goku continues to attack, going from Supersaiyan to Supersaiyan 2 to Supersaiyan God, the last of which literally causes Jiren to raise a finger to block it.

Seeing that Jiren doesn’t get serious, Goku reverts to his base state, and eventually becomes Supersaiyan Azure. Vermoud is sure that even with the power of that form this fighting is completely useless, but Kai thinks it’s crucial, since after all, Jiren defeating Goku’s full power will cause all the other contestants to lose their fighting spirit. Goku will be a sacrifice to show Jiren’s power. While Marcarita thinks it is better not to be so confident, Vermoud responds by saying that no person can beat Jiren. In fact, despite Goku occasionally using the Kaio-ken alongside the Azure Supersaiyan, Jiren easily counters it, before finally grabbing him and sending him flying.
Goku recovers and lunges at Jiren, but Jiren stops him seemingly only by looking at him. In truth, Jiren attacked Goku countless times in an instant, so fast that even Vegeta couldn’t see it. Krilin thinks that Goku must be able to use the Kaio-ken x20. But this does not encourage Beerus. As Whis explains, Goku was already using Kaio-ken x20, being unable to damage Jiren, but Goku still has a trump card, the Genki-lady.🐲
Goku begins to collect energy from his teammates, although he first returns to his base state as the Supersaiyan eliminates his pure heart and thus cannot be used to collect energy. 17 and 18 contribute their energy, as does Freeza, despite Freeza giving him bad memories. However, Vegeta refuses to give his energy to Goku, despite this, he stops Ribriand from attacking Goku while Goku charges the attack. Goku soon realizes that it’s going to take too long to create the attack, but fortunately Jiren is willing to wait. He is eager to see Goku’s special attack and then crush him with colossal force.
Goku finally finishes the Genki-dama and throws it at Jiren, telling him not to regret waiting. However, Jiren starts to push him back and Gohan is shocked. Goku transforms into Azure Supersaiyan and then uses Kaio-Ken x20 in his effort to push the Genki-dama away, but Jiren manages to stay fully on his feet. Despite Goku’s effort, Jiren manages to push the Genki-dama back at Goku, causing him to fall into his own technique.
Second part
When Jiren pushes the Genki-dama back at Goku, the Universe 🌎 7 team is shocked to find that even their old standby mode fails against them. Kai and Vermoud are pleased with Jiren: with Goku gone, Universe 7’s hopes will surely fall. While Goku continues to hold on with all his might with the Kaio-ken, Jiren only needs to stare down the Genki-lady to keep him at bay. He clearly has power to spare, and all observers are in awe of his strength. Jiren is as strong as a God of Destruction, if not stronger. Whis realizes that the rumors that a universe had such a mortal were true after all.
The High Priest steps in to declare that since Goku was killed 💪 by his own technique, Jiren will incur no penalty. Although the remaining contestants have not lost their fighting spirit, no one does anything. The High Priest reminds everyone that the tournament’s time limit has not ended, so they must continue to fight. Beerus wonders if Goku is really gone, but suddenly the entire World of Nothingness trembles.

Goku comes out of the ground with great heat, but his ki is totally calm, his aura is a glowing blue and he has silver eyes. Even Whis has never seen Goku like this before. Jiren attacks Goku, but this time he easily dodges all of his attacks. Gohan can tell that Goku’s moves are totally different from before: not only is he fast, it’s also impossible to tell when he’s going to attack or dodge. Vegeta also finds Goku’s new moves unreal.
Toppo and Dispo intervene, but Goku has no trouble throwing them aside and avoiding Toppo’s blasts, causing Tenshinhan to marvel at the speed of his reactions and the precision of his moves. Finally, Jiren signals Toppo not to intervene. Jiren and Goku begin fighting again, and the two seem to be evenly matched. While 17 is still unsure who has the upper hand, he can tell that Goku has instantly closed the overwhelming power gap between him and Jiren. Piccolo can tell that even now Goku continues to evolve as he fights, with his attacks against Jiren becoming more and more effective. Watching this unfold, Kai and Vermoud are startled to see Jiren in trouble.
The High Priest and Whis have a hunch about the identity of Goku’s change, and Beerus thinks the same, and that is that it is the “Selfish Doctrine”. Hearing this, Champa and the other gods cannot believe that a mortal like Goku could reach a state that even gods have difficulty mastering, though his movements seem to confirm this. The High Priest thinks it’s still too early to say for sure, but this new development is definitely something to watch with interest. Shin doesn’t seem to know anything about it.
Even if it is the Selfish Doctrine, Beerus doesn’t understand how this could have happened so suddenly. Whis thinks that Goku’s body spent all his energy on his Azure Supersaiyan: Kaio-ken x20, so he used that of the Super Genki-lady, but in the explosion it caused two things collided, the power of the technique and the power of Son Goku who was resisting it, which caused him to break the wall of a hidden possibility, which is the Selfish Doctrine.🐲
Goku and Jiren continue to match their fight, but when Goku goes straight at him, Jiren suddenly blocks his attack, saying that Saiyans certainly are interesting, but Goku reached his maximum limit, and the Selfish Doctrine “Signal” of him is over. Goku returns to base state and Jiren sends him flying. As he does so, Hit rushes to attack, but Jiren effortlessly blocks his attack as well. As Vados points out, warriors tend to leave themselves wide open when finishing off an opponent, but Jiren doesn’t even have that weakness.
While it looks like Hit and Jiren are about to fight, Vegeta approaches Goku, still injured from their fight. Vegeta wants to know what Goku’s new power is, but Goku isn’t quite sure about what happened, and seems to be totally drained of energy.🌎
When Ribriand goes to where Goku and Vegeta are, Goku suddenly disappears. Freeza has actually teleported him. Goku looks at Freeza while Freeza is aiming an energy wave at him. Freeza tells the Saiyan that this gives him memories of what happened on Namek.

Curiosities
- Unlike the original broadcast version, the Crunchyroll simulcast omits the scene in which the High Priest protects the Kings of Everything with an energy barrier in the middle of Goku’s Genki-dama.🐲
- Goku was at a disadvantage in this fight. Tenshinhan (thinking Goku was using Kaio-ken x10) said there was no problem since Goku still had Kaio-ken x20, to which Beerus looks serious and worried, and Whis replies that Goku was already using it. This is a reference to the fight Goku had against Freeza on Namek.
