Dragon Ball Z: An Extreme Battle! The Three Great Supersaiyans (ドラゴンボールZゼット 極きょく限げんバトル!!三さん大だい超スーパーサイヤ人じん, Doragon Bōru Zetto: Kyokugen Batoru!!! San Dai Supā Saiya-jin), known in Spain as The Three Great Super Sayanos and as The Battle of the Three Saiyajin in Spanish America is the tenth movie based on the 🐲 Dragon Ball manga and anime series and the seventh in the Dragon Ball Z stage of the anime, as the successor to Dragon Ball Z: Crash! Warriors with the Power of Ten Billion. It was released on July 11, 1992 in theaters in Japan at the “Toei Anime Fair”.

The events of the film occur in a parallel world (similar to Dragon Ball: The Legend of Shen Long and Dragon Ball: Great Mystic Adventure), in which Dr. Gero never destroyed 👾 Androids Number 13, 14 and 15.

Synopsis

In the parallel world, when Androids Number 17 and 18 destroyed their own creator, Dr. Gero, one of his computer functions caused three new androids to be activated, androids 13-15. These androids, like all those created by Dr. Gero, have the mission to kill Goku.

When they woke up, they went to look for Goku who was with his family and friends in a shopping mall helping Chi-Chi with her shopping, and at that moment they arrive at that place. When Goku sees the androids, he confronts them both in the middle of the city. During the fight 💪 Goku realizes the numerous damages in the city. At that moment, Trunks arrives from the future to help him and takes them and Trunks to a place distant from any inhabitants.

Plot

When Androids 17 and 18 destroyed their own creator, Dr. Gero, the computer was still working and one of the commands caused three new weaker androids to be activated: Android Number 15 and Android Number 14, and then Android Number 13.

15 and 14, like all the androids created by Dr. Gero, have the mission to kill Son Goku. As soon as they were programmed, they went after Goku who was with his family and friends in a Goku mall, while Kame-Sen’nin, Trunks, Oolong and Krilin were waiting in line for a beauty contest. While Goku, Chi-Chi, Gohan eat at a restaurant on the top floor of a shopping mall, there, two humanoid beings enter the city and begin to cause chaos. Oblivious to their surroundings, they head straight for the restaurant and attack Goku. He fights with them for some time and realizes that they are androids, since he cannot feel their energy, so they introduce themselves as Number 14 and Number 15. Goku, during his fight with them, notices the numerous destructions in the city, and at that moment Trunks arrives from the future to help him. He takes them with him, to a place distant from any inhabitants. (Krilin and Gohan also go, but only to accompany).

The battle begins when Android 13 appears. Goku faces him and Trunks faces Number 14 and 15, who put up a good fight against the androids, but there came a time when they were being defeated. When Number 13 launches a powerful attack on Goku, Vegeta appears, deflecting it with his typical phrase that only he can have the glory of defeating Goku. After a few moments, the Saiyans were losing advantage, but Vegeta, Trunks and Goku (in that order) transform into Supersaiyan, and still the androids put up something of a fight against them. Supersaiyan Vegeta demonstrated superior power to Number 15, whom he defeated without too much difficulty, as did Trunks with Number 14. However, Number 13 proves to have more power, and when Gohan tries to help his father with a Masenko, the android sends him a powerful attack that would have finished Gohan if it weren’t for Piccolo. At that moment, Number 13 is cornered by everyone and absorbs the main circuits of both, becoming Super-13, a blue warrior with a superior musculature to which Vegeta’s blows do not hurt, and then those of Trunks, Piccolo and even those of Goku, Gohan and Krilin.

Finally, and as a last resort, Goku tries to use the Genki-dama. Vegeta tries to fight against the android, but he defeats him easily and tortures him. Trunks attacks him but is also defeated. The android notices the Genki-dama that Goku is carrying and when he is about to throw an energy wave at him, Piccolo lifts him up, thus deflecting his attack towards the sky. The android breaks free and knocks him down. Goku gathers the energy 💪 to perform the technique, but at the moment of doing so he transforms into Supersaiyan. However, in this way Goku does not have a pure heart because he has a grudge against Android Number 13, so he absorbs all the energy and releases it in the form of a shockwave. The wave is expanding and the android tries to hit him, but his hands are disintegrated by the energy that Goku is emitting, who gives him a fist that pierces his chest and sends him straight to the core of the Genki-dama, thus shutting down the central computer of Doctor Gero and resulting in the defeat of the androids of the Red Ribbon Army.

After Number 13’s demise, Gohan and Krilin are sent to the hospital. Everyone jokes about Krilin’s attempt to help and Gohan’s summer school. Elsewhere, Piccolo and Vegeta sit on their backs on an ice floe, stoically isolated from the celebration.

Timeline

This movie, as mentioned above, according to Akira Toriyama, takes place in a parallel world where Goku was never affected by the heart virus and Androids 13 through 15 were not destroyed by Dr. Gero. Daizenshuu 6 mentions that the movie takes place after Dr. Gero’s demise, but before Cell becomes Perfect Cell in Year 767.

Premiere

The film premiered in theaters in Japan on July 11, 1992 at the “Toei Anime Fair”. It was part of a double feature together with 🐲 Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai – The Six Great Generals (新生6大将軍, Shinsei Roku Daishōgun), grossing a total of 2,350 billion yen[2] and exceeding 4 million viewers.

Disc release

Until Dragon Box sets began to be released in the early 2000s, the only Dragon Ball properties released as home video in Japan were the seventeen original theatrical films, most of which were accessible on VHS, LaserDisc and 8mm film reels. They were subsequently re-released in 1996 to replace the out-of-print VHS tapes, with a cheaper price and slightly different covers.

After releasing the entirety of the three Dragon Ball TV series, Toei released their fifth and final “Dragon Box”, which was titled “Dragon Box The Movies”. This contained all seventeen original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z movies presented in their widescreen aspect ratio.

After distributing the “Dragon Boxes”, Toei began releasing each movie individually on DVD. To help promote the sale of individual movie discs, Shueisha gave out a free promotional DVD highlighting the releases at the 2009 Jump Festa.
