World Trigger Season 4 Release Date: Everything You Need To Know

The final episode of World Trigger Season 3 has been released after a delay of one week. Many anime fans are now wondering if Toei Animation will renew the series for Season 4. Here’s all you need to know.
World Trigger anime adaptation is based on a Japanese manga written by Daisuke Shihara. The first season of World Trigger was premiered by Toei Animation in 2014. It featured approximately 70 episodes. It was well received by the community and ended in 2016.
In 2021, the studio brought the series back with two more seasons. The cast of the original series remained the same. After 14 amazing episodes, the third season ended.
Is World Trigger going to get a fourth season?

Toei Animation did not officially announce Season 4 for the World Trigger anime when this post was written. However, it’s possible that the Japanese anime will be renewed for another series.
The third season of World Trigger was received well by anime fans, just like the two previous seasons. Season 3 was, in fact, the most popular season of the show for many fans. Toei Animation originally planned to release two more seasons of the second season. But instead they chose to create a new season of World Trigger (Via Monster & Critics). The studio’s new season currently has an 8.22/10 rating, based on 10,000+ votes from the anime list.
Toei Animation would be insane to abandon the series after three seasons.

How the World Trigger manga hiatus impacts the anime production

The anime series’ story is inspired by the World Trigger manga series by Daisuke Shirai. In early 2013, the series began serializing in Weekly Shonen Jump. The manga was then moved to the Jump Square monthly magazine in December 2018.
The manga was collected in 24 volumes as of December 3, 2021. This includes manga chapters 213-213. The World Trigger Volume 25 release date is expected to be in the second quarter of 2022.

The manga reached World Trigger Chapter 217 when the finale episode of the third season was released in December 2021.
VIZ Media is releasing the official English translation of this manga series in North America. The English translation was updated to Volume 23 as of March 1, 2022. Volume 24 is scheduled for release on November 8, 2022.
The manga chapters were already available for at least three cours when the second season debuted in January 2020. Why did the second and third seasons have to be one cour each?

The health issues of manga creator Daisuke Shihara are the elephant in this room. Mangaka has experienced a range of health problems including cervical spondylosis (wear-and-tear affecting the spinal discs in the neck), and intestinal issues due to a gall bladder extraction.
From November 2016 to October 2018, the longest hiatus was between November 2016 and October 2018. However, Daisuke took two one-month breaks in 2019, which were both a month long.
Chapter 197 was first released in 2020 as a rough draft. Then Daisuke took a break until August 3, 2020 when Chapters 198 & 199 were released. The same magazine issue published Chapters 200, 201 on September 3, 2020.

Daisuke resumed his monthly schedule and was well on his way to World Trigger Chapter 205 by the 3rd of January 2021.
A World Trigger hiatus was announced just one month into 2021. It was announced in January 2021. Jump Square magazine did not publish a new chapter until February 4, 2021 after the manga was taken off-line.
Official World Trigger Twitter account stated that the author was suffering from “sudden sickness” but assured that he hadn’t contracted COVID-19.

Due to ongoing health issues, another month-long World Trigger hiatus began on March 29, 2021. Jump Square’s May 2021 issue did not include the World Trigger manga. However, it was returned in June 2021. Jump Square quickly announced that Daisuke was not suffering from the new coronavirus COVID-19, and was currently in recovery.
Jump Square announced a new World Trigger hiatus on September 27, 2021 due to Daisuke’s “sudden sickness”. The manga artist had to take a one-month break from World Trigger in October 2021 because of problems with his neck and head.
Daisuke didn’t take any further breaks during the rest of 2021, which is a good thing. In September, November and December 2021, he also published two chapters for each month’s issue. This made up for the entire year’s absence since 2021 when 13 chapters had been released.

It was still a good idea to schedule World Trigger Season 3 in Fall 2021, so that the manga author could be further ahead of the anime.
The World Trigger 2022 chapters did not get off to a great start. Jump Square declared on December 27, 2021 that World Trigger would no longer be included in the January 4, 2022 issue. This hiatus has been in effect for one month, since the release of the next chapter on February 4, 2022.

Daisuke produces enough source material each year to make about half of a single-cour anime series, as long as he doesn’t take breaks.
Toei Animation could also plan a TV broadcasting cut around World Trigger Season 5’s new filler story. The studio could also release a World Trigger movie with an anime-exclusive side story, similar to Fugitive.

World Trigger manga compared with the anime’s third-season

The most notable difference between the third season of the anime and the manga was the use of flashbacks in the anime episodes. The manga didn’t. These visual reminders helped to remember what had happened in the past, especially considering the length of the gaps between seasons.
It’s easy for the characters to lose their motivations when the B-Rank Wars storyline drags on so long. It’s true that the characters want to travel to Neighbor worlds. But the reasons for this adventure have been forgotten by the audiences due to long waits between anime seasons.

It was essential that the third season felt thematically complete. The climax must bring the story arc to an end. The third season surprised anime fans by succeeding on this note.
The first 10 episodes in the third season were adapted from Chapters 160 to half of 184. Episodes with a lot of dialogue would adapt two chapters, while episodes that were fast-paced had to adapt four chapters. Battle sequences were a faster-paced adaptation so these episodes would only adapt one chapter. This meant that the average episode’s adaptation pace was 2.5 chapters.
World Trigger Season 3 Episode 11, finally began the final battle in the 63-chapter-long B-Rank Wars story. Toei Animation had to deal with the fact that the final battle spanned Chapters 185-195. That’s not including the post-match analysis.

Episode 11 ended with a cliffhanger from Chapter 186. This left Hyuse in a predicament, and it looked like the finale of the third season was going to leave audiences hanging. Toei Animation shocked everyone by announcing that they would extend the third season into Winter 2022 to finish the final match.
Remember that only 12 episodes were confirmed officially up to the announcement on December 23, 2021.
The finale of World Trigger Season 3 Episode 14 found a stop point that corresponded to the end of Volume 22, the fourth page of Chapter 196.

This is the perfect stopping point to end the third season, even though technically B-Rank Wars aren’t over.
This stopping point could mean that World Trigger Season 4 may be released in 2023.
Manga readers who want to jump ahead can read Volume 22: Chapter 193. This chapter focused on the analysis of the match by the commentators.

A 2022 World Trigger movie would have been better

Toei Animation didn’t have to extend the third season during the big battle unexpectedly. Although they could have condensed the remaining 11 chapters into just two episodes, who would want to see a rushed finale?
Another option was to slightly alter the World Trigger timeline. The shorter, mid-tier match runs between Chapters 197 and 199. This is the ending of the B-Rank Wars story arc.
The anime could have changed the order and adapted Chapter 183, then jumped to Chapter 194’s last few panels, and back to Chapter 184 for Episode 12. This would have ended the third season. This alternative ending point allows World Trigger Season 4 to continue without a battle.

Toei Animation could have adapted Tamakoma-2’s final B-Rank Wars battle for a 2022 World Trigger movie if they had completed the third season. Western anime fans would be annoyed to have to wait longer for the film, but Daisuke would have had more time to make the movie in 2022.
The Toei writers have to catch up with the source material since they didn’t choose that route. They’ll likely have to write a new story for World Trigger movies or filler arcs for the next two seasons.

World Trigger Season 4 anime spoilers: plot summary/synopsis

It’s the big moment and Chika Amatori’s determination was tested when Hyuse, who had been involved in a large-scale Meteor strike, bailed out. Tamakoma-2 managed to climb up the rankings to second place and qualified for the away team despite all odds.
Since the final battle is not the end, a match in the mid-tier determines the overall ranking. Yuba Squad will fight hard in the final match of B-Rank to stay in the top tier.

Chika is particularly interested in the vertical Cityscape C battle, since it’s Akane Hiura’s last match. Akane is the last remaining agent, which gives Nasu Squad one vital survival point. This pushes them into the top-tier of B-Rank.
All thoughts now turn to choosing the agents who will be joining the away mission after the season is over. Border HQ must make hard decisions about who will join the away team. They need to select agents who can leave their squads safely and not expose Border to danger. They also cannot know any harmful Border secrets if they are captured by enemy Neighbors.
Reghi and Ratarykov, Galopoula Neighbors, try to sneak into Meeden using Trion bodies. This is so that the sensors don’t pick them up. Yuichi Jin makes contact with the Galopoula, knowing that they are a vassal nation under Aftokrator.

Jin wants to form an alliance with Galopoula, as his side effect suggests it will give both Borders and Galopoula an advantage for the future. What can Jin offer the Neighbors to make them disloyal enough to their Aftokrator masters, however?
As if things weren’t getting more complicated, Tamakoma-2 can’t just rank number 2 because they must pass the multi-phase mission selection test.
“Four Eyes,” Osamu Mikumo, knows that this test will be his biggest hurdle. Jin also admits that the future may look any way.
Border HQ is using the event to determine the best Border members. They’re shuffling squads, which means they are breaking up existing teams and creating new squads with provisional captains.
