One piece: It’s good to know
One Piece, an anime and manga created and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda, is the most popular manga in the world. It was first published in Japanese magazine Weekly Shonen Jump July 22, 1997. To date, 99 volumes have been published.
Toei Animation, on the other hand, has produced the anime that has been shown on Fuji TV since October 20, 2000. It is still being broadcast and it is one of the longest-running anime.
One Piece is Shonen Jump’s best-selling manga. It has sold more than 490,000,000 copies worldwide. In Japan, it was the most-sold manga from 2007 to 2018. This record is a historic one.
One Piece ranked number 11 in a Japanese Culture Agency survey of the 50 best manga and anime in Japan. It has received numerous awards. One Piece ranked number 6 in TV Asahi’s 2005 list of the 100 most loved anime, based upon an online survey conducted in Japan. It was the longest-running anime of all time, the one with the highest earnings reported to its author and holds the Guinness record for the best-selling manga.
Toei’s anime production is well-known for faithfully reproducing the original anime. The filler content was added to allow the anime to continue coming out even as the manga was being written. The series was first broadcast in Japan on October 20, 1999. More than 1000 episodes have been aired so far. It has also been exported to many other countries. The series has also been broadcast in two crossover episodes that were adapted together with Toriko. The first, which was also the first episode of Toriko’s series, aired April 3, 2011.91 The second, which featured Dragon Ball Z cast members, aired April 7, 2013.
Dragon Ball: It’s good to know
Akira Toriyama created Dragon Ball, a manga series based on the classic novel The Journey to the West written by Wu Cheng’en. It was first published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine between 1984 and 1995. Later, it was collected in 42 bound volumes by Shueisha from 1985 to 1995.
It is Akira Toriyama’s fourteenth story chronologically. The action takes place on an imaginary world resembling Earth, The World. This is where other works by the same mangaka can be found. The author may also include characters from a different story to hint at the existence of a shared imaginary universe.
Dragon Ball is the story of Son Goku’s life from childhood through adulthood. He is accompanied by many characters as he searches for the seven Dragon Balls. These magical crystal balls can be used to summon Shenlong the dragon, who, due to a special formula, is able to grant any wish that is spoken to him. Son Goku has been called upon throughout his life to battle increasingly powerful opponents, some of which become his allies.
There are two parts to the anime adaptation. They are divided according to the character’s evolution: Dragon Ball depicts his childhood, while Dragon Ball Z portrays his adulthood. Despite the tragedy, the first series is a zany and funny one. The second emphasizes the violence and psychological development of the protagonists while the occasional humor breaks are kept to a minimum.
There are also four anime that take place in the same universe. These include Dragon Ball GT, an alternate sequel; Dragon Ball Z Kai (a new animated version) of Dragon Ball Z, which strips out fillers and elements not found in the original manga (reducing the count from 291 episodes to 167); Dragon Ball Super which is a direct sequel; and Super Dragon Ball Heroes which doesn’t follow the original manga.
Verdict: Dragon Ball vs One Piece
After the introduction, let’s move on to the analysis. Before we give our final verdict, we’ll be analyzing the shows in several different categories. We will compare the plot, characters, depth, animation, and overall anime influence. This analysis will mainly focus on anime, and not manga. Let’s get started.
Dragon Ball’s plot is very similar to One Piece’s when the “Big Four”, especially the first, are considered. Although Dragon Ball had a more prominent world-saving element than Luffy, the story is very similar. While One Piece kept its core structure, Dragon Ball expanded the world of its fictional universe. Not only did it add new plots and characters, but the show also literally expanded the universe. The most recent episodes of Dragon Ball are focused on cosmic-scale confrontations. Dragon Ball introduced a multiverse while One Piece was still in its world. We are able to pass this point on to Dragon Ball because of the world-building Toriyama has done.
Dragon Ball is a series about characters. One Piece focuses on Son Goku, but Dragon Ball has seen the addition of other characters as well. The character development that Toriyama portrays is what we love about Dragon Ball. The other characters, except for Goku, are very likable. What has made Dragon Ball so beloved is the fact Toriyama created some of the most famous characters in anime history. Most anime fans, regardless of their love of Dragon Ball, know about Krilin and Majin Bu, Master Roshi and Vegeta. One Piece does care about its characters. However, when you create a 1,000-episode story, you need to include many secondary narrative elements that distract from the main characters. One Piece is unique in this regard. One Piece has many characters that are stereotypes or comic relief characters. This is something Dragon Ball does not have. We also give this point to Dragon Ball.
Although Dragon Ball may not be as deep as Bleach or Bleach in terms of depth, it does deal with darker topics more than One Piece. One Piece is a very happy type of anime and has a lot humor. While the adventure element of both shows takes away the attention from darker topics it is what has given Dragon Ball an additional dimension. It can become deeper without becoming dark. Although One Piece does not have this aspect, it does not make the show less popular or more beloved. These two shows are also connected by their common themes of friendship and loyalty, determination, perseverance, and not giving in. Overall, Dragon Ball is more complex and deep than One Piece. This is why we also give the benefit of the latter’s depth.
Both shows are outstanding in terms of animation and technical direction. This is especially true when you consider that Dragon Ball is older and was animated back when standards were not as high. Dragon Ball has done an incredible job animating its characters. The latest iterations of Dragon Ball have amazing animation. These two shows required a lot of dynamics to fully animated. They are primarily about fighting and complex movements. It was therefore difficult to choose the winner. One, Dragon Ball showed us how it can grow and improve, while One Piece showed what consistency looks like. We have decided to draw this one due to these two facts.
Because of Dragon Ball’s cult status, it is hard to compare the overall impact of these two. Despite being a highly influential and popular One Piece, it won’t be able to match the cultural significance of Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball has been a popular anime and has become synonymous with anime for many people.
Many people consider Dragon Ball the best anime they have ever seen. Even those who haven’t seen any anime, Dragon Ball is a familiar name. One Piece is a worldwide phenomenon that cannot be denied. However, it will never achieve the same popularity and influence as Dragon Ball.
This is a clear picture and there’s not much to argue about. Dragon Ball is the more important and better anime. One Piece is great, and it is very popular. But Dragon Ball is the superior anime because of the influence of Toriyama and its nearly half-century-long tradition.
