Doctor Strange has seen his powers and abilities grow tremendously since his 2016 entrance to the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the movie Doctor Strange.

 Although there is an origin film that shows Stephen Strange’s transformation into a prolific surgeon and mystical Sorcerer Supreme, most of his further development has been done off-camera, giving the MCU’s viewers only a few glimpses of his true abilities. Doctor Strange’s power has increased throughout the MCU due to his desire for precision and knowledge — an inherited trait from his medical training. However, Doctor Strange’s abilities now include the ability to travel to other universes and alter the natural order. His spells can sometimes have severe consequences as seen in Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness and throughout Spiderman: No Way Home.

What powers does Doctor Strange possess? Before Doctor Strange revealed his powers and abilities, the MCU started his story as a man who was devastated by a car accident that changed his life. Stephen Strange was an Avenger before he could be considered a threat to the Avengers. His greatest strength is his ability to overcome adversity. His brief appearance in Thor Ragnarok establishes him as a more fully-realized sorcerer, leader, and even able to interfere in the affairs of demigods such as Loki and Thor. His appearances in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Avengers: Infinity War highlight his immense potential. Stephen Strange, Doctor Strange, in the Multiverse of Madness is almost a god. This is closer to what Doctor Strange looks like in Marvel Comics.

Is Doctor Strange Strong Enough To Survive The End Of Multiverse Of Madness?

The end of Doctor Strange, in the Multiverse of Madness sees Wanda, the former Sorcerer Supreme, utilizing her enhanced reality-bending abilities through tapping into the Darkhold. Stephen Strange discovered a third eye while using the dark artifact only for a short time. This was not previously visible on a darker, alternative version of him. This new feature makes Strange seem even more powerful.

Stephen was an extremely skilled sorcerer before he used the Darkhold in Multiverse of Madness. For a novice magician, he was able to put up impressive performances against Kaecilius. He even managed to use the Time Stone against Dormammu in Dark Dimension. In Avengers: Infinity War, Strange went toe to toe with Thanos on Titan later. He also mastered the Time Stone to predict future events and how the Avengers would defeat the Mad Titan.

He lost the Time Stone in Avengers Endgame. However, he continued training to make up for it. He is one of the most powerful characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but he couldn’t match Wanda’s power when she was under the Darkhold. He was able to obtain a Darkhold from another universe in order to defeat her. The Darkhold was overused by this alternate Strange, and it gave him a third eye that looked creepy. This allowed him to see events in other universes that are connected to dreams.

It is not clear, however, how much power Earth-616 Strange got from the third eye. It may be found in Strange’s battle with Gargantos at the beginning of Multiverse of Madness. Stephen was unable to see the monster at first, so he used the Eye of Agamotto in order to reveal Gargantos. On closer inspection of the Mystic Relic, Strange was seen to have used a small amount of Chaos magic during the unveiling. A third eye appears on Strange’s forehead whenever he uses the Eye of Agamotto in comics. The Eye of Agamotto was also able to see through illusions and read minds.

This could be a great advantage as Marvel gets closer to Secret Wars where Skrulls pose like existing Avengers. Strange may be able to use his third eye to identify Skrulls from their impersonators. Strange’s magic could be enhanced by the third eye, but it is not known how much. Earth-616 Stephen was facing off against his dark variant. His Eldritch magic was a darker shade than Stephen’s usual orange-hued magic. The darker Strange seemed even more powerful than Stephen, with Earth-616 Strange barely catching him off-guard with one note.

The “price of Darkhold” is the third eye Doctor Strange created in Multiverse of Madness. However, there’s more to this feature than meets the eye. The extra eye, if it is any indication, will enable Strange to see dangers previously hidden to him. The third eye will allow Strange to see threats that were previously invisible. It might also give him more power to cast spells and use Eldritch magic. However, the former Sorcerer Supreme is not comparable to characters like America Chavez or the Scarlet Witch who was corrupted completely by the Darkhold. Doctor Strange, despite this, has his eyes open to all the possibilities the multiverse offers.

In his solo film, Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, is instantly established as a competent man, but an arrogant one. Strange, a highly respected surgeon at the top of his profession, is robbed of his hands in a car accident. The loss is seen as a death sentence by Strange, who travels to the other side to seek metaphysical help. He eventually gets into the Kamar-Taj, an educational complex that was overseen and managed by the mysterious Ancient One (Tilda Swinton). Strange learns a few skills quickly and is known for his incredible untapped potential. This is due to his photographic memory, intelligence and decisiveness. His natural talent and medical acumen help Strange to progress faster than other Kamar-Taj students.

Strange learns a few mystical skills during his early training. He creates portals using a sling ring and creates a simulacrum in the Astral Plane. This allows him to continue his studies even when his body is asleep. Doctor Strange’s abilities increase even faster when the world is being overtaken and dominated by Dormammu, Dark Dimension. Strange is on the frontlines of the greatest war, having acquired the Cloak of Levitation. Strange defeats Dormammu with the death of the Ancient One, and his subsequent control over the Time Stone.

Thor: Ragnarok

Doctor Strange made a brief return to the MCU in Thor Ragnarok. These changes are significant and suggest that the creators believe that Strange has benefited from a deeper understanding of spirituality and his abilities as a result of years of magic-making. Strange’s newfound powers and expansion are impressive, as evidenced by the ease with which he neutralizes Loki in New York, who is not welcome in the city after his devastation in Avengers. Even years after the Asgardian ruler disappeared, he is able to locate Odin and Loki.

Marvel’s What If …? boosted Doctor Strange’s abilities and powers to such an extent that it attracted The Watcher’s attention. Apart from the time Stephen dealt with Dormammu in What If …?, Stephen Strange’s actions were actually what drew attention to The Watcher. Clea from the MCU could have been the catalyst for Stephen Strange’s appearance in Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness’ after-credits scene. In What if Stephen Strange travels to a different time where Christine’s death in a car accident is a fixed and unchangeable moment in history. Strange is obsessed with bringing Christine back, and he absorbs many magical creatures and beasts to achieve this goal, losing some of his humanity as a result.

“Strange Supreme” is essentially so powerful that he attempts to end time, he becomes the only survivor in a prison he has made. The ending of What If …? The ending of What If…? Stephen Strange uses the same spells that he used to survive in his universe in order to trap Infinity Ultron and Kilmonger’s Black Panther. It’s not clear if Sinister Strange in Doctor Strange 2 and Strange Supreme are the same thing, but What if …? could still be seen in the MCU.

Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness Scarlet Witch faces Doctor Strange, leading to an epic battle of magical Chess that threatens all reality. Marvel also adds more powers to Doctor Strange’s arsenal. Strange is the reason America Chavez’s abilities were activated at the right time, allowing America to stop Wanda’s march through the multiverse. To fight Wanda, he also dreams-walks using the Darkhold and even has the Strange Variant’s rotting corpse. WandaVision, Doctor Strange and Doctor Strange reveal the true power of magic in this universe. It also shows how the most powerful superheroes on Earth can be corrupted by godlike power, and how Stephen Strange’s actions impact the multiverse.

Strange is far more powerful than Scarlet Witch in terms of raw power. Strange convinces America Chavez, who is scared and helpless, that she has always known how to control her powers. Strange then concludes that America’s seemingly random portals led them both to the right place. Strange was certain that America would use her portals to correct Wanda’s ways. He also tapped into a power he had always had, even before he became a multi-dimensional demigod. This power was Stephen’s perseverance and resilience. This is a reminder of Doctor Strange’s real strength, aside from his command of mystic arts, America Chavez is able to save the day in Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness ending. It’s what makes Stephen an Avenger at the end of it all.
