Made in Abyss Characters. Made In Abyss This manga series is by Akihito Takushi. It features Japanese manga illustrations and writing. Since 2012, it has been published online in Takeshobo’s digital publication Web Comic Gamma. It has been also collected into eleven tankobon book. Riko is an orphaned little girl who meets Reg, a robot humanoid. She then descends into the “Abyss”, where she hopes to find her mother.
We’ll provide the basic information needed to identify each character. Biographical information will be provided. We will discuss the main characters more.

Made In Abyss Principal characters
Riko (リコ)
Riko is a trouble-prone 12-year old girl who is very energetic. Lyza, Lyza’s famous Cave Raider, disappeared into The Abyss 10 years ago. Riko hopes to be just like her mother. Riko is currently a Belchero Orphanage cave raider-in training. Riko has secretly taken a few of her found items, in spite of the strict policy of the Belchero Orphanage to return all objects found to pay operating costs. Riko also stole the Star Compass, a valuable relic from the Director’s office at the orphanage. She plans to use the Star Compass for her exploration of Abyss. Her mother gave her birth during an Abyss mission. Riko was stillborn. Lyza, Ozen and Ozen took Riko from deep in Abyss with a relic named the “Curse Repelling Vessel”. Because of the Curse, Riko now wears glasses. If she can’t see the world through a crystal prism, she gets headaches.
Reg (レグ, Regu)
Robot that can amnesiacally recall things. He looks like a boy. Despite being a robot he can eat organic foods. Reg, who was found by Riko on the Abyss’ first layer, lost his memories and was named Reg in honor of the dog Riko used. Riko refers the “Incinerator”, which is his mechanical arms. It can fire a melting stone capable of emitting energy. Riko calls it the “Incinerator”. Reg wears a helmet which flashes mysteriously and alters patterns depending on where it is placed. Nanachi speculated that Reg’s helmet might indicate his level of energy.
Nanachi (ナナチ)
Nanachi is a Hollow, (Cheng ReGuo Tie, Narehate), who has some rabbit-like traits. Nanachi lived as a human infant in the slums. She lived in the slums, ate from the garbage and collected food. Bondrewd originally recruited Nanachi to train as Cave Raiders. Nanachi, however, meets Mitty, an adorable young girl on their descent to Abyss. They are then sent down to the sixth level in Bondrewd’s experiments. Nanachi’s humanity could not be fully restored. Mitty became an inhumane and immortal being with a grotesque array of flesh and bones. Nanachi fled Bondrewd’s laboratory with Mitty to save her from the suffering of his cruel experiments. Mitty was her only child, and Nanachi cared for her until her death. After that, she accepted to travel with Reg and Riko to the lower layers. The writer intentionally left Nanachi’s gender unclear. You can decide.
Mitty (ミーティ, Mīti)
An odd, amorphous creature living on the fourth level with Nanachi. Mitty, a normal girl of human race, was born with red hair. She also had light skin in the past. Bondrewd recruited Mitty with other orphaned kids from an unknown area to descend into Abyss. Bondrewd took her to the sixth floor, where she became Hollow. Her appearance is a little like a cat with a small mouth and one eye. Bondrewd conducted gruesome experiments in order to see if she could recover from her potentially fatal injuries. Nanachi also found out that Mitty is capable of providing antidotes against the poisonous Abyss creatures.
Faputa (ファプタ)
Faputa, also known by the “Princess Of The Hollows”, a creature that lives on the sixth level. Reg lost all his memories soon after meeting her, and they became close friends. Faputa is furious that Reg forgot her. He is also jealous of Nanachi and Riko’s friendship. Faputa becomes friends with them and helps them search for the bottom of Abyss.
Belchero Orphanage
Director (院長, Inchō)
Orth is the home of Belchero Orphanage director. She is extremely strict and has many interesting punishments to children who break the rules.
Jiruo (ジルオ) / Leader (リーダー, Rīdā)
Belchero Orphanage’s young assistant instructor (“Moon Whistle”) who was Lyza’s mentor and cared for Riko at her birth. Although he is hardworking and stern, he is also sharp-minded and perceptive. Behind his uncaring façade, he is a kind and compassionate soul. His students refer to him as “Leader”. He is currently in his 20s.
Nat (ナット, Natto)
Nat is one Riko’s closest friend at Belchero Orphanage. He might have feelings for her, as he was against her descent into Abyss.
Shiggy (シギー, Shigī)
Riko’s friend is Shiggy at Belchero Orphanage. Riko was able conceal Reg’s identity from the adult. Nat knew of Riko’s plans for Riko, and he also knew Riko was going to Abyss with Nat. Shiggy can take restricted items for himself and the group.
Kiyui (キユイ)
Riko is Riko’s friend. Riko is also the youngest Belchero Orphanage orphan. Kiyui has yet to achieve the Red Whistle Status, so he still wears the Bell while the Red Whistles train.
Cave Raiders
Habolg (ハボルグ, Haborugu)
An old and friendly Black Whistle who supported the main characters after Lyza left. Riko visits him often with his friends when he’s not on an expedition. Riko refers primarily to him as “Uncle”.
Ozen (オーゼン, Ōzen)
Ozen, the Immovable, manages the Seeker Camp’s second layer. Lyza was Lyza’s mentor. She helped Riko return from the surface when she wasn’t yet born. Ozen loved Lyza despite her complicated persona and promised Riko to return to her. Ozen has placed many relics in her body that give her strength and vitality. Habolg states that Ozen has been in Abyss for at least 50 years. While she may sometimes look hunched back, there aren’t any obvious side effects to her time spent in the Abyss.
Marulk (マルルク, Maruruku)
Blue Whistle’s apprentice and Ozen’s apprentice who becomes friends with Reg and Riko during their stay at Seeker Camp. Marulk is a young woman who wears a blue maid’s dress but uses the masculine pronoun, boku. Ozen made Marulk wear this dress.
Lyza (ライザ, Raiza)
Riko’s mother. She was Ozen’s mentor. She is also one the few Cave Raiders to have earned the rank White Whistle and the title “Lyza the Annihilator”. She was said to have not only defeated many Abyss hazards, but also faced raiding parties from abroad.
Bondrewd (ボンドルド, Bondorudo)
The Ido Front is ruled by the White Whistle, a bad reputation. This research station, located in the bottom layer, guards the Abyss gateway. He has been responsible for numerous unethical experiments on children, including one that turned Nanachi and Mitty into Hollows.

Prushka (プルシュカ, Purushuka)
Bondrewd adopted Bondrewd’s child, who spent her whole childhood in the fifth level. Bondrewd is a dear friend who affectionately refers to him as “Papa”. Riko is a friend to Prushka. He wants to help her on her adventure into The Abyss.
Meinya (メイニャ)
Meinya is Prushka’s loyal companion and pet. She is a bunny-sized creature called the Meinastilim, which Bondrewd gave to her when she was young and traumatized. The fifth layer curse is temporarily cured by sniffing Meinya’s fur. This allows the sniffer see Meinya’s fur and follows her path.
Sages of Ganja
Wazukyan (ワズキャン)
Captain of the Ganja fleet, who prophesied Vueloeluko’s arrival.
Belafu (ベラフ, Berafu)
Vueloeluko and Wazukyan were accompanied by the Star Compass on their quest to find The Abyss.
Vuelo Eluko (ヴエロエルコ, Vueroeruko)
After discovering The Golden City, she refused to allow Ilblu Village to be created and was banished to a dark, sticky pit below the village. Vueko (Vueko), her preferred name, is due to the length her name.

Riko Made in Abyss
Riko is a happy and energetic child. Riko is an intelligent, curious thinker and can quickly gather information about any topic that interests her. She is the constant source of energy and enthusiasm for the team, despite the hardships.
She is fascinated by the Abyss. She was fascinated with the Abyss’ secrets and mysteries and wanted to be a Delver like their mother. When she was twelve years old, she became an Apprentice Delver. She could explore the Abyss on her own terms.
Reg is less fragile than Reg, and she lacks physical strength. Reg is more resilient than Reg and can make rational decisions even under pressure. This allows her to cope with the Abysss even when she has no help from the team.
She prioritizes her needs and has been forced to do so. She can make delicious meals from any item and will eat food that is repelling to other people.
Reg Made In Abyss
Reg is a skilled fighter but shy and naive. Reg blushes easily and can cry when in distress. Reg is more aggressive and sharp than Riko who is an analytic noncombatant role. Reg is a skilled fighter, who will fight for Riko in any situation.
Ozen says that Lyza’s way of speaking and handling his body is very similar to Ozen’s. Lyza was a frequent user of the term “irredeemable”. He loves to use it.
Nanachi Made In Abyss
Nanachi is reserved and cool. They keep their distance emotionally and physically. Although they can be sarcastic, or even cynical, Nanachi is a gentle, kind, and selfless soul who has deep compassion and selflessness. Their indifference toward compliments is demonstrated by their reaction to being called fluffy. Reg is the one that pries on them while they are being petted.
Nanachi, a person, seemed more timid than usual because of their past lives.
Mitty Made In Abyss
Mitty was determined to become a White Whistle Delver in her childhood. Mitty was optimistic and positive. Mitty was a positive and upbeat person who pondered the world endlessly. She tried to see the best in everyone, even Nanachi. She was outgoing and determined to be friends with Nanachi when she first approached her.
After becoming a Narehate, Nanachi lost her intelligence and she was unable to communicate with her. She could only make soft sound and move a little. Although she cried instinctively when she was hurt, she didn’t seem to feel any emotion or sensation. Nanachi said that Mitty’s soul was “trapped” in her Narehate form.
Faputa Made In Abyss
Faputa appears to be unstable and unreasonable. She displays wild behavior that is comparable to a beast because she is the embodiment of Irumyuui’s regrets. Faputa speaks primitively and in a simplistic way. Faputa refers to her self only in the third person. She communicates using short sentences that are sometimes difficult to understand. Reg is her entire property. She can be possessive and jealous. She feels she has the right to inspect him without shame and restraint. Reg didn’t mention her, and she appeared a bit shaken. Reg stated that he would prefer to spend time at Nanachi or Riko.
Majikaja states that she is loved and respected by the Narehate. However, she can sometimes be angry or irritated. She doesn’t like being watched. She is particularly afraid of Ilblu Narehates with many eyes. Later it was revealed that she believes it is her responsibility to kill them, owing to how she was raised. She shows signs that she is ready to shift her perspective following the events in the village.

Explanation of the ages and heights of the main characters of Made In Abyss
Rico’s age was taken from the fandom character wiki. A Reddit source says her height is most likely 115cm, or 3ft 7in. The BMI calculator was used to calculate her weight. The CDC girl’s chart was used to calculate the results.
Reg is not able to remember his past life before he met Rico. He was estimated to be roughly the same age as Rico based on Rico’s chart. Reddit post shows his height at 110 cm (3’6″) and that he is shorter than Rico. His body composition means that we cannot accurately determine his weight, despite his height. Reg appears to be half-human-like and half-robot. His body seems to be made of special-grade artifacts. Although his body appears lighter than his actual size, these are just speculations.
Reddit user Nanachi estimated her true age at around the 20s to 30s. This chart displays Nanachi’s actual age, based on her appearance. Reddit is the place where Nanachi got her height. This shows her to be 130 cm (3’2″) tall, without her ears. Most people believe she is a “she”, even though her age isn’t known. The BMI ideal weight tool was used to calculate her weight.
Mitty’s age is not listed on the character wiki. Sources say that she is approximately the same age of Nanachi. Reddit user stated that all of the child characters are approximately twelve years old. This means that Mitty is 12 years old. Reddit provided a translation that showed Mitty was approximately 30 cm tall when she is in her amorphous form. Mitty could be the same height and stature as Nanachi when she is human.
