Today I’m going to go on the Meruem vs adult Gon debate, it’s a debate that’s been going on for a while, since the comparison made by Neferipitou after his transformation into an adult.
Since this transformation, the thousands of fans exploded, many people were like “oh adult Gon, is so cool” and on the other side “Oh Meruem is so strong, he’s beating up Netero”.
Could Adult Gon win against Meruem ?
No matter which side you were on, you were confused by the facts, but as we know in the manga, it was clarified that Pitou never really said that Gon Adult was on the level of the king, she said that Gon San’s power was huge and similar to the king.
But we saw that in the anime, they were the ones who took it up a notch and said “yo, this guy is Meruem’s rival” and that’s what led to this debate between people who were wondering who would win between Adult Gon and Meruem.
Of course, I put the Post-Bomb Meruem in the trash, because the Post-Nuke Meruem is still the most powerful character in manga.
So we won’t use the version of Meruem that was affected by the nuke to make things fairer.
Because, let’s be honest, he was crushing everyone in a hurry, if it wasn’t for the help of the poison he got from Netero, he would still be getting stronger and unstoppable, so yeah, we can’t really use that version of him.
We can only use the one before, but we still know that Meruem is a monster, we saw what he did to Netero.
Netero went on a rampage, he kept hitting him, but Meruem kept getting back up and he practically made Netero.
If we were 100% honest, Meruem got Netero because while Meruem was getting hit, he was thinking, and at the same time, none of the hits really had any effect on him.
As you can see, Meruem only had little dirt spots on him, which shows how well he managed to minimize Netero’s abilities.
He wasn’t even able to do it, and it looks like throughout the arc he was banging the Royal Guard doing it all at once.
Like Meruem was really unstoppable before the nuclear thing. so I understand why people get upset when he is compared to Adult Gon…
I understand Meruem fans, they are really into their guy and I understand why, because he is really strong.
But let’s look at the other side, you have to be fair and judge what happened, because I think a lot of people fall asleep on Gon’s adult form, like it’s weak…
I think that’s where he’s underestimated more, the fact that people think that he can’t defeat Meruem, it’s a bit shocking because we see what he did against a Royal Guard.
Yeah, Pitou was pretty much considered as I mean, if not the best Royal Guard, the second best Royal Guard at worst.
But regardless of the fact that Gon demolished her, I mean demolished her, he didn’t molest her and that was a good indicator of the strength of his adult form, because if he was able to demolish Pitou, we have to admit that he is somewhere on the level of Meruem.
Whether in the anime or in the manga, the fact that they were able to demolish Pitou means that they are in the same level of power.
Now, we also know that Meruem somehow did a more nonchalant heel strike with his tail against Pitou.
But we see the differences in power, Meruem was trying to do a kill shot on Pitou when he first hit her with the tail and he was like “oh that didn’t work” and that’s what made people and/or Meruem respect Pitou.
But when he hit her with a kill shot, hey let’s just say that this force as a whole was not the same strength as the hits against Netero possibly.
But no actually after discussing these two feats, I know many of you are wondering if Adult Gon will win against Meruem, but I must tell you that YES Adult Gon could win Meruem
you know I think Gon would be able to beat Meruem and not only because of what Pitou said in the anime but just because of what we saw.
And that can be reflected by the way he beat Pitou.
He beat the Royal Guard to the point that it wasn’t even a challenge in the same way that it wouldn’t have been a challenge for Meruem.
Now that we know a duel is possible, how should Gon win
What would happen in a possible Adult Gon Vs Meruem fight ?
In fact, the funniest fact about Hunter Hunter is that almost every major fight in the series has been completely one-sided and the winner has never really been in doubt, so we don’t have many truly equal fights and, as such, it’s a bit of a shame that Gon and Meruem never faced off, because they represent the pinnacle of raw aura usage in the series.
In fact, things are quite difficult with only our basis for Meruem, who is the only character in the entire series that can not be classified in the hunter’s manual, because if you take a quick look at his statistics, you will notice that, almost everything is a complete question mark, except for one of the characteristics of the series.
Question mark, with the exception of one of the sets of statistics in the palace invasion, where everything is five plus, which does not clarify much and tells us that his abilities might as well be infinite on the scale.
To put things in perspective, Meruem’s main opponent, Isaac Netero, ends the series with a perfect five out of five in every area. Five out of five in every area, but even in base four, Meruem is clearly above that ranking, and while we’re on the subject of stats, I have to say that Adult Gon never seems to have been ranked according to the system, because as far as I can tell, all of these numbers refer to regular games.
In his basic form, he is unbeatable in all aspects: speed, stamina, strength, intelligence, etc…
Meruem literally has all of that and you have none of that. I think it’s important to point out that Meruem was deliberately created as a character that was impossible to defeat by traditional means. Because we tried, we threw humanity’s greatest warrior at Meruem, we even condensed every drop of his aura into a gigantic blast, but it wasn’t enough to do anything but superficial damage.
Meruem is supposed to be unbeatable, which can’t be ignored in a hypothetical situation like this. because for Adult Gon to get away with it, he would have to have access to an infinite supply of power capable of meeting Togashi’s intentions behind Meruem.
What brings us to Gon’s adult form as Meruem is an extraordinarily difficult existence to quantify the essence of the form is that gon has made an envow to access all the power he would ever have so what we are looking at is a snapshot of what would have been the future eventually gone would have become a frankly unstoppable being become an unstoppable beast and not only that, but gone also developed to physically surpass Pitou by an order of magnitude, which wouldn’t have been that difficult in terms of strength, because that comes quite easily with natural improvement.
But a very underrated aspect of gone is his speed and agility, especially since Pitou is the most agile of the three royal guards, so to see him completely outclassed speaks volumes about what gon is capable of and I really don’t think it’s out of the question to put gone on the same playing field as base Meruem in this regard.
Although there is no great way to compare, as the only other two characters who surpassed Pitou’s speed were Meruem himself and Netero, the latter having a particular level of speed that even Meruem couldn’t catch up to in the end, not in his base form anyway.
Before talking about strength, I think it’s a bit more important to consider aura, because as a natural enhancer, it will more or less convert directly into strength for Gon. directly into strength for Göran, and what’s interesting about Adult Gon’s form is that we don’t know if it has auditory limits, mainly because of the killer’s assessment of the situation, according to which the more Göran uses this form, the higher the price to pay.
Which may mean that in theory Adult Gon can continue to push himself into infinity, much like Alluka or I suppose Nanika’s ability, they can do anything as long as an equal price is paid, though even with that in mind.
I firmly believe that there would have been a strict limitation somewhere with Gon given that he was only able to afford his payment yet the aura reserves that allocon possesses is quite uncontrollable and will put him at a comparable level of strength to Meruem through natural enhancement which, by the way, is the only slight advantage that gone has over Meruem.
Because Meruem is a natural specialist and enhancement is by far his weakest affinity, which means that there is a lot of potential for Adult gon to come close to what has been said and close that power gap.
Indeed, it would cost Meruem several times more aura than Gon to get the same effect and now another thing that will often be mentioned about Adult Gon is the fact that Pitou managed to cut off his arm or at least the post mortem.
This has no real impact on his strength or durability because it happened at a time when gon had completely let his guard down, he thought pito was dead and he was an emotional wreck, so no aura was expended to monitor his surroundings or defend himself and in this situation he suffered the same consequences as anyone else including meruem.
I guess that brings us to where this fight is ostensibly lost or won and, unsurprisingly for Hunter X Hunter, it’s entirely in the mental arena because I think it’s arguable that it’s possible for Adult gon to have the strength, speed, and aura reserves to beat Meruem, but what he doesn’t have is the intelligence to use those abilities to defeat the king of the chimera ants.
And that’s not to say that Gon is an airhead punch machine, in fact, I don’t think Gon San gets enough credit for his intelligence, he can be a bit of a genius in combat as he has shown time and time again with particular examples coming to mind against genthru and knuckle.
However, Gon is a very instinctive fighter, he acts based on more primal senses and information which to be fair worked phenomenally against Neferipitou gone’s senses were incredibly sharp during their brief conflict and it really gave him that feeling of invincibility.
Nevertheless, in this case, he would be directly confronted with Meruem’s strategic prowess which is unmatched by all mankind, with one exception and only when it comes to Gungi specifically, Meruem has a greater advantage, as his ridiculous intelligence is not the only thing he has to rely on being chimera ants.
Being a chimera ant, he is also well and truly in touch with the same kind of primitive instinct as gone, so gone has no particular advantage there either.
And also, we should really look at the motivation of the two characters because usually in hypothetical combat discussions, it’s less than relevant, but the thing to remember here is that gone’s adult form doesn’t appear naturally.
It is gone’s response to the greatest despair he has ever felt in his life and his willingness to give up his life and which is a terrible match for someone like Meruem whose sense of duty to his race will always be able to overcome a self-destructive mentality.
Destructive, because in fact, when it comes down to it, Adult Gon is fighting to die, while Meruem is fighting to live, and in this situation, both fighters achieve their goal, which makes Meruem the easy winner, and I mention this because there is also a widespread misconception that Göttering turned because Pito backed him into a corner and threatened to kill him.
I can’t count the number of times people have tried to tell me this, but it’s not true. During the conflict with Pito, Gon San had only one concern, to revive Kite. Once that became impossible, Gon San made the decision to sacrifice his life for revenge, as he literally stated.
He states that he doesn’t care what happens to him. Survival is so far removed from what Adult Gon is that he would have been quickly dissected by Meruem’s superior intellect and instinct.
The only path to victory in this kind of situation would be to have strength, speed and aura so much greater than Meruem’s that the strategy would no longer make sense. Which is certainly not the case, so whichever way you look at it, this match would greatly favor Meruem, even if you accept the hypothesis that Gon’s physical abilities are equal to the king’s, because even in this situation, the mental mountain is simply too high for Gon to climb, and that’s probably one of the many reasons why Togashi chose not to organize such a match…
