Marvel Comics has a lot in common with DC Comics, including the surnames of two popular characters. Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel, shares her name with Kara Zor-El or Kara Danvers, Supergirl. These two strong women can accomplish things that no human mind can comprehend.

Carol Danvers is Captain Marvel. However, she is a strong Marvel superhero. Her powers are limited, as we will see.

Captain Marvel is a superhuman with many superhuman abilities (strength, stamina, endurance, durability, speed, and even the ability to fly). She is able to harness different energy sources and use them for defense and offense.

Her true powers become visible when she activates her Binary Powers. However, this temporary form only lasts for a few seconds before she returns to her original form. Supergirl, on the other hand, was described as possessing “all of [Superman]’s powers,” which makes her extraordinarily strong.

As we all know, Superman is the most powerful DC Comics character. Kara’s ability to harness his power makes her very, very powerful. She is a superhuman with almost unlimited strength, stamina, and durability. She can also fly, and although she can’t harness energy or change form, she can fire lasers from her eyes and blow ice out of her mouth.

This seems quite straightforward, doesn’t it? Captain Marvel’s powers are limited, even though she is undoubtedly a powerful superhero. As with her superhuman abilities, she has limits.

Her energy harnessing ability has its limitations. Carol can only absorb so much energy before she is overwhelmed and knocked unconscious by it. Although she may be stronger than Kara in her Binary Form, it is not permanent. Kara could still face Binary Carol, and then use her power to defeat her once she’s normal.

Kara Zor-El, on the other hand, has no such limitations. Her power levels are likely higher than Captain Marvel’s, and she could easily defeat her in her basic form. Carol could also withstand her energy blasts, and then counter them with her laser eyes. This means that Carol isn’t the best in all the elements.

Now that it’s obvious that Supergirl could defeat Captain Marvel easily, let’s see why anyone would think otherwise. The confusion around their powers likely has two main sources.

The MCU is the first. The MCU’s Captain Marvel is far more powerful than her comic-book counterpart. Although this was intentional by the producers and writers, it is a fabrication. Captain Marvel wasn’t that strong. Captain Marvel is much weaker than other characters in her universe, such as Thor and Thanos.

DC is probably the source of confusion. Due to Kara Zor-El’s age and the setting in which a lot of her stories were set, people didn’t take her seriously. People were not able to see her potential and subsequently dismissed her abilities and powers because of the “high school girl” setting in her stories.

One is part Kree and the other is Kryptonian, meaning that both are aliens living on Earth trying to find meaning in their lives. Imagine if there was a fight between them. The battle would be amazing to see, but it would also depend on their abilities as to who wins. Let’s see how it could pan out.

10 Kara Danvers: Speed

Before we get into the details, let’s say that although Captain Marvel can travel faster than light speed, her battle speed is not nearly as fast as Supergirl.

Battle speed and flying fast in the air are two very different things. Supergirl’s acceleration from zero to incredibly quick might prove too much for Captain Marvel, especially if she doesn’t see it coming or jumps from behind.

9 Carol Danvers: Exploitable Weaknesses

Kryptonians may be powerful beings, but they do have some weaknesses such as a lack of solar energy or the green Kryptonite that seems to get in their way.

Captain Marvel might be able to come up with brilliant plans to defeat Supergirl if she does her research prior to the battle. Carol Danvers’ detective background is a testament to her ability to come up with genius plans.

8 Kara Danvers: Invulnerability

If Captain Marvel can’t exploit any of Supergirl’s weaknesses, then she may be in for a long haul because Supergirl has no vulnerability. Supergirl can take all the punches Captain Marvel throws at her, and still emerge stronger than ever.

Kryptonians can be very hurt by weapons from Earth, particularly the ones derived from Krypton. Captain Marvel must have something unexpected in her arsenal if she is to render Kara’s invulnerability useless.

7 Carol Danvers: Precognition

Precognition, or the “seventh” sense, is one of Captain Marvel’s most underrated and rarely talked about superpowers. This is something the Marvel Comics writers chose to ignore.

Carol Danvers can use her Kree physiology to be able to predict certain events and could potentially use it in her fight against Supergirl to learn about her attacks before they happen. This would be a major advantage.

6 Kara Danvers: Strength

The battle of strength between two opposing fighters is one of the most fascinating aspects of a fight. Unless the other person gets creative, the person with greater strength usually wins the fight.

Supergirl’s Kryptonian raw strength is more powerful and deadly than Captain Marvel. Carol should be aware of the dangers that Supergirl’s punches could have on her opponents if she is to give Supergirl a chance.

5 Carol Danvers: Energy Manipulation and Photon Blasts

Captain Marvel is the only creative superhero that has an advantage over Supergirl. She can manipulate large amounts of energy and make it her own. She can manipulate energy with her hands to make it any shape she likes and then release it on her adversary.

These large energy balls are known as the Photon Blasts and can be considered Captain Marvel’s signature attack. They could be very useful if Supergirl is able to blindside them.

4 Kara Danvers: X-Ray Vision

Kara Danvers, like Superman, has X-Ray vision which allows her to see through any object other than lead. She also has a Telescopic Vision that allows her to zoom in on people or objects very far away.

Supergirl might be able to see through her X-ray vision a weakness within Captain Marvel’s Kree anatomy, and use it to her advantage. Despite Carol’s many strengths, Kara must still have a weakness.

3 Carol Danvers: Going Binary

Captain Marvel’s Binary form is what might push Supergirl beyond her limits. Carol has an energy absorption superpower that is not new. Once she has enough energy, she can tap into her Binary transformation. She releases large amounts of heat, and becomes all glowing.

She has an explosion of energy and her power is unstoppable. This has one drawback: she can only use it for a short time before her energy runs out.

2 Kara Danvers: Stamina

Kryptonians know that solar energy is their source of unlimited power, and Earth has plenty. Supergirl therefore has virtually unlimited stamina.

If Captain Marvel is unable to destroy the sun or move it far from Earth, Supergirl would have to fight her in all her glory. That doesn’t bode well for anyone, especially those with less strength than Kara.

Supergirl is the 1st Winner

Speed, durability, endurance, and strength are the main factors that determine the outcome of a fight. Supergirl wins against Captain Marvel in all aspects. Only Kara Danvers’ Kryptonian weaknesses could give Carol Danvers a glimmer of hope.

Captain Marvel might find Supergirl’s superpowers too powerful, despite this. Kara is most likely to win the battle of Danvers. It would be great to see Supergirl join forces with Captain Marvel.
